Anyone going? I have just collected tickets for my Goodwood debut next Thursday, which also happens to be the wife's birthday. Probably have to find her a winner now as well...Uncle Spielberg, are you doing a Goodwood pullout special?

More bloody tourists, gamblers and holiday makers.

This is a local racecourse for local people. We don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry clogging up our rather pleasant neck of the woods thank you.

Thats to the south of us and very good it is to. I dropped in at a Lotus owners day a few months back and that was as interesting as any motor racing.

I'll make sure I close the gates then unless you promise to pee on the potatos. The nitrogen would do them good.

What with Royal Ascot being held somewhere north of watford last season, I managed to finally lure a party of racing mates down to Glorious Goodwood for the first time, regaling them with promises of the marvellous scenery, beautiful women, genteel garden party atmosphere to be found on Sussex Stakes day. Which was the only way I'd ever seen it. Sadly tho, for the first time in living memory there was a bastard sea-frit worse than the one on the Albion Race day that got abandoned at Brighton and you couldn't see the rails on the other side of one furlong pole, let alone any live racing. All me chums got horribly pissed, wandered off snarling and, it turns out, lost their marbles and their bearings, and at the end trundled off down Trundle Hill in the wrong direction from any known civilisation. It was dark when they got home.

Oh well
