I say let him go. About time we had a good clearout. Lets be honest last season was absolutely awful. Not felt so down about Brighton in a long long time. We need players that want to be here.

Forster and Hart and possibly Virgo have shown the time of spirit that we need at this club.

If this report is accurate, then maybe Leeds will be alerted if they manage to offload Beckford. Will be a cheap option for them and a proven goalscorer at this level.

talented chap but always looked lazy to me, will barely be missed due to recent injuries so not fussed if he does go, just hope we get a suitable replacement.

Exactly what i was thinking! Wouldnt be suprised to see him go somewhere like huddersfield either who seem to have real ambission for next season. If he goes, Le fondre has a similar record to Murray at rochdale? Just a thought.

I'd certainly expect us to recoup the £300k, but I can't see us getting any significant profit on top of that as I thought he was somewhat overpriced to start with.
Its the age old adage about player power though - is there any point keeping hold of a player who wants to leave ? The best case scenario for us I suppose is that his request is turned down, he gets fit, and plays out of his skin to attract an offer that we can't refuse in January. Whether it pans out like that is doubtful though. Maybe we'll get £400k if we're lucky, then Slade can invest that in someone who actually wants to be at the club (hopefully NOT this Simpson guy at Cov though).

Whing still stalling on a deal, Dicker still non-commital, Owusu already gone, Sullivan inexplicably released, Lynch almost certainly gone, and now Murray wanting out. I'm not panicking yet obviously, but we're losing a series of key players for us there who will not be easy to replace. NOT a good start to the summer.
I wonder if this will possibly take a little bit of pressure OFF Slade. I know NSC is not representative of all fans etc but if you look at the many threads about where people expect us to finish next season the majority are saying top 6. Personally I think that is a little optimistic. Adams had the kind of expectation and though I don't subscribe AT ALL to the theory that Adams failure was down to the fans, and think there is no chance of Slade making the kind of mistakes Adams did, that kind of expectation can create pressure.
I don't think Whing and Owusu are huge losses anyway, Lynch and Murray are quality and it will be a shame to lose them but if these departures give Slade a little more time and leeway to build his own team it might just be for the best.

If its true then the ungrateful fucker can f*** right off. Can we have back the money we have spent on him whist he has been in recouperation for injuries then?

If its untrue, then what a great professional he is and I am glad we spent the money on him and helped him on his way to full fitness to lead our attack next season

Generally don't get on players backs about this kinda stuff - regardless of whether it is motivated by money or family reasons.

However agree with this comment 100%. A big outlay and no doubt some hefty wages, yet we've seen little of him (appearance-wise, as I think he was consistently quality when he did play) and I can't help feel that he owes something back to the club.

This is the same SKY Sports News that brought us such headlines as 'Luke Rodgers set to seal move to Seagulls'; and 'Dennis Wise to become next Manager at Brighton'?

SKY seem to get the wrong end of the stick if its not Premiershit news and anyway, even if he has handed in a request, doesn't mean we need to accept it. Think he owes us more than the poultry time he's spent here (mainly injured!).

I never really took to him. I never got the sense of excitement when he got the ball that everyone else seems to get. I didn't hate him, like some others did, I understood he was the sort of player who scored in patches, so didn't slaughter him during his barren patches.

I fully agree.

Its not like losing Zamora and strikers like murrey can be replaced easily enough imho.

Yes he scored some good goals, but like Whing, he was made to look good in a poor team last season.

If he wants to go, then good luck to the man.... However, how many times over the last 10 years have we seen players (who think they're too good for us) leave and actually go onto better things- not including Zamora or loan players?

To be honest I'm not that bothered. Yes his scoring record is good, but he is never fit. Its all well and good having a good player, but if he hardly plays then it doesn't matter how good he is.

If he wants to go, then off he goes. But we get at least the money we paid out on him.

We need fit, 100% triers to do well in this league.

Players only have 6 weeks off before pre season training, so there will be no transfer activity yet. I'm not at all worried about us not signing anyone. No club has, except the Man Citys of this world. Lets wait until md July before we start worrying.

presumably he's playing the "havn't settled in the area" card with a view to going back oop north somewhere.

That seems most likely, and if that is the case, then I think that makes it very hard for us to recoup the money for him.

No-one in the Championship will be looking at him, he's not exactly set League One alight, while no-one in League Two is about to cough up £300k for him because they don't generally have that sort of money.

Therefore, if we are selling to this division, the tag of "doesn't settle down south" kind of screws us because League One is virtually Division 3 South.
