Amidst all the ranting about the woeful performance today, our 'Northern Light' Ruby Murray has gone completely unmentioned. To be honest I thought he was just about the worst of the whole team, I'm not sure he even touched the ball in the second half. Now I know what his apologists are going to say, "he isn't getting the service", but neither is Forster and at least he looks willing to get stuck in and dig out a chance. On todays (and most of the season's) performance, he really doesn't deserve to be in the team - unfortunately we have no replacement!

Did Forster touch the ball in the second half?

Did Dixon?

Dixon:thud:
Hart:thud:
Gatting:thud:

That's it, unless Virgo plays upfront which wouldn't be ideal:nono:

And what makes you think anyone else in the team did better today?

Abort, retry, fail
Ball to Murray. Lays it off. Gets into position. Cross doesn't come in. Ad finitum.

Granted, he could have done better with a few of his chances in the second half. As for not touching the ball, didn't he hit the crossbar with Ince beaten?

The whole team and tactics were shit today, hard to pick Murray out as worse than anyone else.

He wasn't wose than most of the team, but I'm pretty sick of watching him do f*** all. Unfortunately if his scoring record doesn't improve it's going to get harder and harder to defend him. 1 in 8 isn't exactly great!

Basically, you have a vendetta against the bloke, and want HIM to be slagged off even though he was probably BETTER than a lot of our players today.

Well it's not easy to score when the team don't even create one real chance. Against 9 f***ing men.

Fair enough he hasn't played well today really, but there are at LEAST 5 or 6 players more culpable than Murray.

I don't have a vendetta against any player, I'm simply commenting on what I've seen so far this season. I don't actually think he stood out as being worse than anyone today, but he has been consistently bad for most of the season. He doesn't put in the committment, he doesn't create much, and he isn;t scoring the chances that come his way. At the end of last season I would have defended him, but so far I don't know what he's contributed to the team. If he plays amazing and scores a hattrick next week I'll be ecstatic to be proved wrong.

A bloke next to me hit the nail on the head when he said "it's funny, whenever there's a decent chance Murray doesn't seem to be involved". I think he hit the nail on the head.

You'd have 'defended' him? Defended him against what? Utter FOOLS who fail to realise than nine goals is bloody GOOD!?

Basically, you want a Revell type player instead, or failing that, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ridiculous.

Last season, Cox was capable of putting the ball on Murray's head. This season he is not. Thus - moan at Cox.

He certainly looks lightweight when the ball isn't played right in to his feet, rarely wins 50/50's and will NOT be top goalscorer i feel Virgo will be a beter option to put up there at the moment as our 'passing' isn't working and need someone just to get those flick-ons that Revell and Savage used to when they were here.

Last season I would have defended him against the idiots who said he doesn't work hard enough. And basically, you've really simpistically tried to stick me in an anti-Murray bandwagon because apparently there are only 2 different opinions on him allowed. I'm certainly not saying I'd prefer Revell, or a Revell type player, because I don't think that running round like a headless chicken is what's required.

However, I can't really say much about Murray's performances other than "he's not doing very much". If you want your attackers to wait in the opposition half for a ball to be planted on their head or exactly where they want it then fine, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be successful. There's a reason why Forster has scored 5 so far this season, and there's also a case to argue that pretty much all our attacking threat comes from him and his committment (which isn't the same as chasing dead balls).

Oh, and also let's not forget that Murray did have a couple of crosses pretty much on his head today, and he managed to miss the target every time.

Getting a bit worried about Murray last season we played to his strengths and he got goals and looked bloody good, this he hasn't looked the same player and for that I think Adams has to look at his tactics. He is starved of chances and the more he goes without a goal the lower his confidence will go. We need to start playing to his strengths

No chance under the current Low IQ setup. If he needs the ball placed directly to his head or to his feet then he'll be a long time waiting under the current regime of brainless hoof n hope. Maybe best for all concerned if we let him go to somewhere where his God-like gifts can be put to better use
