Murray has returned to Palace. So I guess its down to Pardew now.

Pardew dislikes us so we're ****ed :lolol:

In all seriousness though RE: Murray, I know he scored twice against us but Reading season ticket holder I know said that up until that game he'd be pretty average and seemed disinterested ina few games (standard Murray), just adding balance to it. I like Glenn for what its worth but hes 31 now and with his previous record and probable large wages it would be a real gamble I personally think.

i read the thread on their message board and they didn't seem that impressed with him although that changed a bit after we played them.

Yep. It's a romantic notion for many I'm sure, seen through misty eyes. Look at Andy Johnson ("The scorer of Palace's fifth goal Andy"....."Johnson") and his recent return to Palace.

I'd agree with that, except that it's notoriously hard to sign strikers in the January transfer window because the owning club is trying to consolidate their own league position going in to the last few months of the season, so it is likely that anyone we try to sign will have issues/considerations like the ones you (quite rightly) state about Murray.

I guess what it comes down to is what Naylor mentioned in the press conference. Stage 1 is survival - bringing in players short-term just to ensure we stay up and then Stage 2 is go in to overdrive in the summer to formulate a squad capable of getting in to the playoffs, or better!

Andy Johnson was signed on a free and coaches with their Academy. Injuries caught up with him, especially a bad cruciate ligament injury a few years back, and at 33 it's hardly a fair comparison with Murray who looks every bit still an effective Championship striker.

It will have been part of the interview process. " who would you realistically like us to sign to improve the current squad"?
Hughton has made a point of saying he has some knowledge of our squad and has been watching a lot of (mainly) Championship football this season.

Indeed I have a bit of a suspicion that he was sounded out while Sami was still here. He certainly knew he had the job last Sunday it seems

One would hope that replacing Hypia was on the agenda if he hadnt quit very naive if not. As has been said CH has been seen at many of our games so possibly worked on the law of probability as to the next vacancy to arise and thus be prepared when it happened.

I doubt it. He's a completely different type of player to Gayle. If pardew signs a player in the ilk/style of Murray then he'll be upset. Chamakh I would imagine is his competition. Is he injured?

Murray brings skill and finesse to the game , something that eludes Gayle.
