The Argus said last month that we were interested in Hayden but he was not our top target. I would be very surprised if we were prioritising Kamara over someone like Hayden

Indeed, but they play in a shite league. (I appreciate I wasn't very clear with my seemingly irrelevant point on Scottish players)

I wouldnt write off every player that comes from Scotland or plays in the SPL. Moussa Dembele hasnt done bad after leaving Celtic

Haven't Liverpool just won the Champions League with the help of an ex-Celtic player too?

I fear this could well be our attitude to most of of upcoming signings. We are set up to bring through youth now it seems. This is a sea change to what we have had for the last few years. One it will take time to adjust and two we will be taking a risk on young lower/inferior league players (Scotland, Holland again?). Interesting times that could see something really exciting or could see us relegated well before the end of the season. I’m up for it, exciting times I think with plenty of wobbles on the way.

There is a part of me which thinks we're preparing for the possibility of relegation. Maybe "evolving" the team with a few additions that may be competitive at this level but that would almost certainly be competitive in the Championship.

Players coming from Celtic don't really count do they? Celtic have won nine domestic trophies in a row, they are not really a typical Scottish Premiership club.

Could be an acceptable worst case scenario I agree.

Surely we would have kept hold of CH as a promotion specialist then? Unless Tony is planning to well and truly rip everything up and start again and build a new club identity, which would seem strange given how much progress has been made over the last few years

But I would argue people like VVD and Moussa Dembele had a much easier time as, let's be honest, the respective defending and attacking whilst in the best team would be easy. VVD was probably defending in his sleep in that league.

Playing well, for a worse team, is surely a good demonstration of a players ability?

Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy are VERY good premier league defenders.....they could quite easily have been relegated this season. Doesn't mean they were poor.

That right back from Chelsea (on loan at Wigan, name escapes me.), by all accounts, had a stunning season. Wigan are a League One club next season.

Andrew Robertson joined Liverpool from (I believe relegated) Hull City.....having joined from Dundee United (weirdly on the same day Hull signed League One defender Harry Maguire). Good players can exist at worse clubs, whether that is in England or Scotland.

All true of course. But don't you find yourself questioning why bigger Scottish clubs aren't looking at Kamara if he really is good enough to make a step up?

Yep

If nothing else next season is going to be interesting.

As I said on the #CPFC thread imagine starting the season with Roy at the helm.

I'll always be sceptical of players from Scotland. Back in the day, Scotland produced world class players and this reflected well on their league. Nowadays Scotland are shite and their league is shite (look at their European record). Oh and look at Conor Goldson - seemingly highly regarded at Rangers, but nowhere near the required level in the Premier league (and I liked Conor Goldson!).

Don't be too quick to dismiss, Andy Robertson, Victor Wanyama, Virgil Van Dijk, Ryan Fraser, all recently played in Scotland and all would improve our first team. I also rate the like of Kieran Tierney, James Forrest, and Calum McGregor as excellent players and could definitely cut it in the premier league. John McGinn may be one to watch next year.

Possibly but in that scenario we go down, CH (maybe) gets us back up and then what? We try our best for a couple of years and go down again?

Nothing to say that won't happen with Potter of course.

I think we're building a team capable of survival around the nucleus of the team we have with a few additions that would be less likely to want out should we get relegated. Throw some youth prospects in as well and you've then got the bones of a team that would compete in the Championship minus the players who would likely be sold relegation.

Or t'other fella and now possibly even 'Dross as well.

Still Roy has the nous to make it all work.

Another season of CH in the Premier League would have been unbearable. The negativity absolutely stank imo. Let’s get relegated a la Fulham rather than a la Boro, if it has to happen..well for me anyway. I HATED the last three months of last season.

Can you even contemplate another season of 10 behind the ball and Murray upfront on his own?

Bring on the risk with an unproven manager and entertainment

I don’t go to the football being happy to come home pissed off and looking for a reason to avoid going to the next game.

Like that time we had our tallest player from Midfield up, Harry Kane, taking corners even though A)He wasn't good at taking corners and it was obvious, and B) There was nobody in the box to get on the end of them.

I liked Roy for that.

What would be a good division from which to buy Premier League standard footballers?
Obviously it's not The Premier League - Harry Maguire £85m.

We already know it's impossible to buy them in Holland.
Belgium is just a poor man's Holland.
Spain has no depth.
Germany ditto.
Scotchland is just monkey tennis.
France is monkey tennis against a wall.
Italy is just well... ...Italian.
South Africa - can't even get in the door.
Argentina - full of Jocko's

It's almost as if, if you're plying your trade in The World's Greatest League buying players away from that bubble has some form of inherent risk.

I'd almost forgotten about it until you just said that. Now I'm sad again.
