Maybe because they are very goodThey are popular.
Maybe because they are very good
Yep, they’ve made very good universally popular music. And very good at it too.Maybe because they are very good
I used to like your posts back in the day.Another annoying thing among my muso friends is that when a band become big they suddenly become 'shit'. I must admit I am not a fan of big venues and would much rather see bands in small intimate clubs, but just because a band becomes commercially successful doesn't make them suddenly rubbish.
That is an absolute FACT about people who are far too wrapped up in being seen to be cool in their musical taste. Has been like that forever.Another annoying thing among my muso friends is that when a band become big they suddenly become 'shit'. Am I in the right place to say Coldplay are shit?
In general I’d agree but some bands, in my opinion, work better in arenas. Arcade Fire is a great example. I never saw Depeche Mode in a small venue but they are great at arena level. Most heavy metal is better in an arena as well; I’ve seen Iron Maiden at theatre, arena and stadium level and bigger is much better.Another annoying thing among my muso friends is that when a band become big they suddenly become 'shit'. I think many people that bought Brothers in Arms when it was topping the album chart probably couldn’t name a previous album by the band. That is an absolute FACT about people who are far too wrapped up in being seen to be cool in their musical taste. Has been like that forever.
Dire Straits are comparable from back in the day.
As a Dire Straits fan, my least favourite album, along with Love Over GoldI think many people that bought Brothers in Arms when it was topping the album chart probably couldn’t name a previous album by the band.
Likewise. As a Dire Straits fan, my least favourite album
You should check out The War on Drugs. As a Dire Straits fan, my least favourite album, along with Love Over Gold
They were before they became big, now they’re shitYou should check out The War on Drugs.
They’re the Dire Straits it’s acceptable to like.
My days of being cool in my musical tastes are long goneYou should check out The War on Drugs.

I can argue, and do argue, about most topics but I have rarely, if ever, get into slagging bands off. Music still is, and probably always will be, my number one interest and passion. I get so much from it, and figure if others get just a modicum of the enjoyment I get, whichever and whoever the artist that is, then they’re onto a good and positive thing. Why criticize that?My days of being cool in my musical tastes are long gone
I confess to being an insufferable music snob in my younger days
It's like when that unsigned band you follow and love and have watched in umpteen toilets finally get the thing they've been working towards, and you've been championing - A Record Deal. Then they bring out that first single, that glorious crowd-pleaser you've loved a score or more times live. And it sounds tinny and weird and well... rubbishAnother annoying thing among my muso friends is that when a band become big they suddenly become 'shit'.
