These are a good film.

Gladiator is Mrs Bobkin's favourite ever film and we went to see the second one last Sunday. Absolutely loved it and I actually thought it was better than the original (I've watched it loads of times, because of the above!).

Mescal was pretty good, I thought. Probably not as strong as Crowe, but a convincing lead who grew throughout the film.

Opinions, eh? :lolol:

Just come back from the cinema. It bored me sh*tless. Mescal was terrible. The sharks???
Sorry, it was a dreadful film.

I've got a horrible feeling that Rob is going to be right.

It's ok. Basically it follows the plot of the original almost step by step, but doesn't do any of it even half as well. Mescus was a weak casting option, he drags the whole production down. How he got the part I'll never know. Plus the sharks and baboons are just silly.

It's not boring. It's just all a bit...meh.
As Mel Brooks said to camera at the end of Spaceballs.... " Spaceballs will return.... " Spaceballs 2 : The Search for more Money "

Saw the fantastic Blitz at the flicks and they showed the trailer for Gladiator 2 - it was greeted with laughter by most people present. Personally as a history obsessive I found the original a bunch of old cobblers patched together with epic action. Especially as I'm a big fan of the Gracchi brothers, both of whom had been murdered several centuries before the Coliseum was constructed (Flavian Amphitheatre).

I do tire of the historic smuggathons who pull films apart due to "oh this, that and the other" bollocks which was wrong or could never have happened because blah blah blah.

Look. Its not a documentary. Its a FILM, to make it dramatic and entertaining. You want bona-fide facts ? Then get a VHS of the Open University and cob off on that, or go to a library. Leave the rest of us to take in a film for a bit of entertainment.

I didn't expect to watch Alien Romulus as a docu-drama on what happened to the Mars Mission droid when it set down on LV426.

Spoiler alert!

Don't think, personally, I've dissed it due to historical innacuracies. It's just a poor film in my opinion.
The lead character is about as engaging as a dead fish. The storyline is very rushed, there's no clear plot development. The battle scene at the start was dull and the ending, rather than have a huge set piece battle between 2 armies had 2 people splashing around in a river before a clichéd 'why can't we all just be friends' speech to close the film.

I watched the Critical drinkers review which put me right off. I'll fall asleep in front of it when it hits one of my over priced streaming services. His reviews are normally a decent barometer albeit he gets more hits when he is acerbic.

It's got SPOILERS but seeing as it's basically a remake i'm not sure there is much to spoil

I thought it was alright. Maybe could have been a little bit longer and some of the acting was quite weak but not a bad way to spend a couple of hours at the Dukes like.

Visually it looks really impressive and I did enjoy it. The story though is paper thin and the sharks.....just don't go there.

Silly tosh, not as good as the first one, but still a fun evening out.

I don't want you to change your mind. You loved it. I'd like to love it too, I'm just not convinced I will.
Yeah, I think I read too much into your 'right' comment, because it's all subjective at the end of the day.

I mean, *some* people like Mrs Brown's Boys, FFS!

Indeed they do. But if you were to say that Mrs B's Boys is shit, you would be right.

"Historical epic film" means overproduced, overly sentimental and filled with stuff that is considered beautiful/romantic/crazy/genius by those who think salt and pepper is a gastronomical eccentrism.

The first Gladiator fits all of that and if this new one is the same shit but with CGI monkeys... thanks but no thanks.

The first one is a decent film, the 2nd a decent comedy (acting wise).

I pretty much agree with that. I wouldn't go quite as far to say it was poor film. I wasn't bored by it. But it was something of a letdown for the reasons you mention. The primary reason for me was the casting for the lead role - Mescus was crap, and there were lots of other flaws.

Actually, yeah. Maybe it was poor.
