After 28 years, I'm finally giving up my season ticket next season. Not felt the same, the last 2 years.
Not sure if it's covid or our sanitised support since promotion. I'm currently enjoying watching non league footie and getting so much more enjoyment than the amex.

Just wondering is it just me? Is the the premier league that ?

8 of us have season tickets and 5 of us feel the same. Is the shift changing to a few pints at your local footie club?

That happened when we were last in the top division (79-80). We struggled to win games and fans drifted away. Fans will come to watch a winning team regardless of the division they’re in. The journey to get to the EPL is probably more exciting than being there, although away matches are still great to go to and often a better experience than home matches - but we’re doing ok, we had a weakened team tonight that played poorly, but we’ll stay up.

Going to the Amex feels more like going on a school trip with everyone having to be on their best behaviour. Nothing like the football experience was back in the day

If people want to pay the best part of £75-£100 a time to experience the same sterile atmosphere and boring shite served up each time then fine, but count me out!

Being a lifelong Brighton fan its in blood, its just impossible for me not to support the lads...... Yeah modern corporate football has its issues, and the Amex is very much the modern football ground, but all this negative stuff is just heightened by a run of bad form isnt it, couple of good additions tothe squad and start winning a few games on the bounce and it will all feel right again.

fwiw I've always loved away days more, new places, new pubs, the atmosphere in away ends is often excellent if you score/win, and its all hardcore Albion without the Amex day trippers.

Whilst I see your point, the timing after a loss, no wins in 11, etc might not be the best time to make up your mind. I can't beat the euphoria of watching the Albion win, no matter how many Seaford Town or Newhaven games I go to.

Seeing us beat Liverpool, Man City, etc - it is beyond my wildest dreams. Things right now are pretty grim, but surely those moments of magic make it all worthwhile.

And at least we aren't Norwich.

I may as well become an armchair Albion fan seeing as most Albion home games are on TV, if you can’t beat em, join em.
I can watch a local non league game at 3pm on a Saturday and still be home in time for a 5.30 kick off to watch the Albion.
The PL are not bothered about us ticket buying fans.

Covid hasn’t given me doubts, Lockdown 1 was a blessing with a closed zzzzz Amex.

It’s the EPL and lower budget Brighton. Our home win % over the 5 seasons must be shocking, not to mention the amount of games with a lack of goals.

I’m old school, I go to football to see a win, with a fair wind.

I don’t give a toss about:
- the EPL music and plinth they take the ball from.
- drinking pints from plastic beakers in a breeze block concourse, doesn’t do it for me. I prefer pub, restaurant or home drinking.
- can’t stand Ronaldo and Chelsea. As a Brighton fan, why would I get a boner about seeing them?

I sometimes envy the supporters of clubs like Posh. A terraced end, going into each home game with a real chance of a win and goals. That’s football for me.

Very rarely scoring, very predictable football (bar the odd game where we look brilliant, usually against the top teams) and results over what feels like years now, barely any 3pm Saturday ko times, sanitisation of the upper echelons of football, and of course covid... I mean, its really not surprising that many are feeling like this.

The Newcastle game second half, also Everton the whole game, I just on my hands. Numb, bored, frustrated by a shit show car-crash played out in slow motion. Nothing done of note to change the game’s trajectory. No jump out of your seat moments. I’m normally a raucous, passionate, mildly aggressive supporter, but that’s so seldom these days.

Leicester and Watford were the rare exceptions, magical days, but all too rare at home over the 5 EPL seasons.

After almost 50 years of watching the game, you identify the failings with ease and potential solutions. We’re not football idiots. Transfer windows come and go.

I’m bored of the whole thing now. 4 hours trips, to watch another Albion home loss or draw, with large sums of money spent in doing so.

I agree with you. Been a Brighton fan since around 6 years old and often went to games at the Goldstone with just me and a mate from about 11. (in my 40's now) There was genuine excitement and electric in the air and the general randomness of the day around the ground and in the Northstand was genuinely buzzing! Now it just feels like going to the theatre with everything under the microscope and just sanitised and dull all round! It doesn't help with the patronising tone from certain people at the top of the club talking the their fans like school kids either! People pay bloody good money to go there, it shouldn't be made to feel a privilege.

I understand society has changed, but like others have mentioned the further down the leagues you go the closer you get to the original roots and feel of traditional football. It's not even partially the results (although they really don't help) it has been like it since the beginning at the Amex.

I hate the kick off times we have. Football used to be a lovely part of the routine of my life. Now, it is anything but.

Add to that piss poor results and you have a cocktail for disaffection.

Feel exactly the same. Sad, really, but I feel the same way about football in general really, bar local non league stuff. Rarely bother with stuff like the champions league, barely watch weekend football on telly other than intriguing games... Definitely lost a lot interest in the sanitised world of predictable mega money football. Can't wait for Newcastle to spend their billions and buy their way to the top; that'll be exciting to watch....... Or not.

Maybe we're just getting old.
