Interesting point made on the phone in. Club statement needed. One might say that this is acceptable in South America.
Was he driving a club car then
Club statement needed! Should have given him a Llama or Push me Pull you instead!
Based on the hearsay comment of some old geezer on the phone-in, who wanted to discuss a rumour on a topic which has still to be heard in a court of law.
Anyway, if an organisation makes a company car available to an employee, isn't the onus on the employee to declare that he or she is unable to drive it for whatever reason? Companies do not generally issue statements on their employees' transgressions of the law - unless it is high profile and of direct relevance to the employee's job, so why should a football club start making statements?
Good practice is for an employer (and, indeed, any operator of fleet vehicles) to check the driving licences of all drivers permitted to drive company vehicles.Based on the hearsay comment of some old geezer on the phone-in, who wanted to discuss a rumour on a topic which has still to be heard in a court of law.

Not that we know that a company vehicle was involved in this episode.
