Kompany was one of the City players who hugged Bruno when he was subbed. That deserves a round of applause alone.

My problem with this is, that it wasn't just a clapping off, he was given a standing ovation by a large number of Brighton fans. So have we now set a precedent and to be considered a sporting club, we must give a standing ovation to any good player subbed by the opposition in future?

It was a unique situation where two captains (probably) had played their last games for their clubs. The reaction to Kompany quite obviously influenced by the reaction of the city fans, players and manager to Bruno.

I stood up briefly and clapped Kompany as did most around me.

A war horse survivor in a team of world superstars whose goal at Leicester has probably won them the title. Nothing to do with being star struck, just a classy reaction from Brighton fans just after an equally classy reaction from City fans.

Get over it - it's unlikely to happen again.

Why is it a problem? If you don’t want to applaud or give a standing ovation then don’t. No one is forcing you to, the same for fans who do applaud and give a standing ovation, the choice is yours whichever way.

It just seems all a bit over the top the way these overpaid athletes get this god like respect even from those who don't follow them. There's no harm in giving the opposition players a standing ovation because they're good at football and also do a bit of punditry on the TV, I just don't understand the need? It's no debate that footballers are getting God like respect now. I've seen clips of people literally falling to their knees in tears at just being in the presence of Ronaldo. The man's as colourful as a chessboard

Giving a man who has captained a team to four Premier League trophies in 8 years a decent send off is just showing a bit of appreciation for him, no one fell to their knees.

From my view from the North Stand the City fans were excellent when Bruno was subbed.

I was happy to reciprocate when Kompany went off ... A cracking player.

He still might be playing for them next season and yet he gets a standing ovation when he leaves the field. Why?

But yeah, obviously footballers aren't getting a god like respect these days, they only have airports named after them, statue's built of them, football clubs paying them insane money, people collapsing in their presence etc.

They don't work hard, live a very pampered lifestyle and earn a ton. I have no problems with that, I'm sure they must experience a lot of boredom throughout being a footballer too, so it's not all glam. But anyone outside of football would assume Kompany's contribution to football was sacrificial after that standing ovation we gave him. I just had him down as someone who played for Man City. No big deal. Surprised me that he got the same standing ovation from us that Bruno go considering he might not even be retiring. But then again, I suppose some people see these super star footballers as Gods?

He didn't .... Bruno (understandably, justifiably and EXCELLENTLY) was given an EPIC send off.

Kompany 's departure from the pitch was given a rousing response .... and was justified as it was in part ..,......actually .... Duck it I can't be arsed to argue they're about this

It was a nice thing.

Bruno was given a magnificent send off from pretty much EVERYONE in the ground .... And I was happy to clap Kompany off .... because he's a belting footballer, I like football and I appreciate his work in entertaining me.
