It is tested, but the tests on donor blood is apparently not as thorough, which is worrying. Something to do with it being a general test, not specific enough.
It all seems silly, because as far as I'm aware, and I apologise if this assumption is wrong and offends people, but aren't gay men more inclined to have hiv/aids tests than straight men or women and so be aware of whether they're positive or not.
I mean, isn't it more likely that a straight guy would go undiagnosed longer than a gay man, and so if they let gay men donate, you'd be more likely to discover a positive result from a straight guy than a gay guy, because the gay guys will have been tested regularly and not donated unknowingly?

I have given over 200 units. Used to give whole blood, then moved onto plasma and platelets, which you can give every six months. Currently linked to a person with a condition called thalassemia, which I think is similar to sickle cell disease. This patient needs a complete transfusion a couple of times a year, so there are a group of us on call.
I am shit scared of needles, but my old man was saved by people giving blood to him in the Royal Sussex(?) in Edward St in 1976 and I vowed then to do whatever I could to repay the system.

Yes, they trace the blood. So that when they test it they can contact you if they discover any health issues (as they did with one of my friends). Gay men can give blood if they lie on the form, and if they're healthy and free from any disease, no one will ever know.

I believe you are gay or straight through the path in life you take/experience. There is no right or wrong journey in life, it just happens.
In a way, I believe sexuality has been changing because of porn but nevertheless its not porn that defines you, its everything, like people and friends you meet in life. Every second of your life and its effects, will last a lifetime.
Take identical twins for example, before birth, completely identical but as soon as they are born they are starting to become different by the tiniest of moments like the way they were handled differently and one was born a few minutes later define the thinking of the human brain differently to the other twin.
I think John Barrowman is hot by the way, doesn't mean I am gay though doesn't it.

Been donating since the late 1980's so I really should have given more than the 25 odd pints I have done.
It really is one of the few totally good things you can do in your life, takes very little time to accomplish and doesn't hurt more than having an injection.
My local venue does a mean selection of Club Biscuits to accompany your post donation cuppa as well.....

I'd love to but having feinted the first and only time I did it, I don't really want to anymore. For the rest of that day I had a monumental migraine and egg on the back of my head from hitting the corner of a bench as I fell, so I haven't ever been back.

Now that's just pathetic. We may as well fulfill the prophecies of Adolf Hitler if our (Government state!) National Health Service wishes to be discriminative. I understand the need to not use blood infected with diseases but homosexuality is not a disease.
