I can’t see this posted anywhere else on here, so here is an extract from the Gillingham official site (http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Match/MatchReport/0,,10416~27199,00.html):

Prior to kick-off Gills boss Stan Ternent asked the referee to postpone the game due to the frozen state of the pitch. The game went ahead. Gillingham would have wished it hadn't.

Ternent's point about the pitch being unplayable came to the fore in the 19th minute as Chris Hope fell awkwardly and an ankle injury meant he played no further part in the encounter.

Gillingham boss Stan Ternent:
"The pitch was unplayable in my view and I told the referee this before the game. "It's not sour grapes. It takes away the skill factor and makes it dangerous.

Brighton boss Mark McGhee defended the decision to play the game after Gillingham had complained about the state of the pitch:
"Conditions were a bit tricky, but not that bad. I've played on a lot worse. The pitch was not a concern - it's a state of mind.

I would have forecasted P-P.

The dew point remained about minus 0.5 degrees C throughout the day. It's frosty man!
The air temperature was always above freezing though.

I go for scientific decisions. e.g. sticking a thermometer into the ground.

Will Falmer have under soil heating?

Mentioned on BBC Sport as well on the web.

Sour grapes really although I have to say when I walked down the hill the pitch did look dodgy but it up to the referee to call off a game.

I agree with him 100%. My first thought when I saw the pitch today was that it was unplayable. On a better pitch the Gills bloke probably wouldn't have injured his ankle.

I've seen us play on worse pitches at Withdean. Suspect Wendy Tom wasn't v happy either.

Just as well was a 1 o'clock kick off tho. Got seriously cold the minute it got dark.

Why does Perseus always ask completely irrelevant and f*****g stupid questions? Tosser. Not as if he wants Falmer or any other site for the club anyway.

I was surprised that Robinson didn't come on. His lower centre of gravity would have helped him on that pitch..still, we won, so what do i know?

There was give in the ground. So I think the ref got it right.

The park over the road was frosty but not that hard.

Had to de-ice my seat though !

In view of the fact that we won, I think the referee's decision to play on the pitch was entirely accurate.

Shame one or two more of their players didn't get nobbled :lolol:

"It's not sour grapes. It takes away the skill factor"

Gillingham looked a shower of shit, i can't believe that was just down to the pitch. Does Stan think if the pitch wasn't frosty they would have played like Arsenal? ???

And yes Perseus Falmer will have undersoil heating - one more reason why its better than our current excuse for a home..
