Because l truly think he loves the club, and will want to put things right. He will be hurting seeing them miss out on a Champions League place for next season.

The guy is over 70 and he'd be commiting himself for at least 3 years (the very least). They have to move on from him sometime, they have the chance to do it now, not just postpone it for a couple of years. I'd say there is next to zero chance of it happenning. They need to appoint an A lister now, invest in the summer and they could be back up there in a couple of years. They do have the problem that City, Chelsea, Arsenal and now Liverpool are all getting stonger, so if they don't stop the rot now, whilst they still have a high reputation, they'll fall even further behind.

I do agree that Giggs in a head coach role being overlooked by a decent DOF would work well for them, but not if that person is Fergie. They need to move on from Fergie.

quite short given the opposition, though might make a nice accumulator with say Liverpool winning all theirs.

Van Gaal has to be favourite. Cant see them going for anyone less experienced or tempting someone from a club qualified for the Champions League. Will struggle to get rid of some of the dross: struggle to sign the players they need: and struggle to consolidate back into the top four.
Might be a tricky few years ahead.

they have massive debts, no european football next year, and a poor squad that needs an overhaul.....hardly enticing for europes elite managers.

This is a scenario that often happens but I can't see it panning out here. Man Utd are still one of the biggest clubs in the world plus any new manager wouldn't have to do much to improve on the previous incumbent's effort. This being the end of the season rather than the middle makes it less likely too.
