Hmmm... he has had some injury problems recently but I doubt if Cotterill would still be bringing him on as sub as recently as a few days ago "if he couldn't run properly".

He has been frozen out of the team because Cotterill prefers a very cautious 4-5-1 system and he wasn't going to start ahead of first Akinbiyi and then Michael Ricketts.

With just six starts I think, Burnley fans were never going to see the best of him.

That sounds all too like your prediction after the Worthing game that CKR had 20 goals in him and would play every match from the start.

Great signing and one in the eye to those who said the board had given up on this season.

I well remember your reaction when Cardiff signed Michael Ricketts on loan from Leeds. You said Ricketts was a joke. Now you are signing a player who has been kept out of the Burnley side in recent months by ...... Michael Ricketts! And guess what? You regard Noel-Williams as a great signing.

Oh, the irony!

So how long before gifton confirms big maccas point about no distribution - and he can't score goals if no balls are put into the box.

Will he play in league 1? Lets hope so.

At least we have some genuine hope with this signing, however faded it is

Now I see why its taken so long to sign a striker. In order for DK to try and keep up standards at the club, we're only looking for players with double-barrel surnames. Or maybe its a tactic to try and fool the opposition that we're playing 4 up front -

Kazim to Richards to Noel to Williams - goal!

The guy has an appawling scoring record in the championship and if he was any cop he wouldn't be being farmed out by a very mediocre Burnley.

It smacks off " lets show the fans we have made some effort at least in trying to stay up " but it is 5 games too late and quite frankly a totally pointless and expensive exercise. :censored:

I think from McGhee's comments today one of the Frenchies is going to get a rest, probably Frutos given his ball-watching for the QPR goal. I don't think Frutie will mind, he gave an intreview recently on SCR where he implied he was surprised he had so many starts this year (possibly they rotate more in France to keep players fresh).

Now we have a targetman, we can fortress up the midfield like we did last year when we played off Virgo.

That's why this signing is so vital, it also sorts out other problem areas of the team.

Did you not say a few weeks ago we could not play the attritional game we played last season as teams had got wise to it.

For a record I do not think it is a bad idea, just not sure McGhee will change it that much. Still wait and see.

so how did ricketts do at cardiff?

Pretty well. He scored 5 goals in 17 Championship games - not a brilliant record, but not too bad either. However, the real of value of his time here was the improvement he helped to bring about in Cameron Jerome.

Jerome has obviously greatly benefitted from Dave Jones's coaching and management, but there's no doubt he benefitted from having Ricketts as a partner too. Many City fans picked up on the fact that Ricketts was doing a lot of talking to Jerome during games while he was here. Jerome's best form this season coincided with the Ricketts loan spell.

Perhaps Noel-Williams can have a similar effect on your young strikers.

You may or may not be right about his ability and we are undoubtedely wide of the mark time-wise. However, with 5 games to go I'd say better to have tried and go down rather than not tried at all. I don't see how it's particulary expensive, given whart's at stake and who we've sent out on loan recently.

What a load of cack! I would never have said that about Ricketts because I think all the usual talk of his uselessness is way overblown.

No what I said is that you couldn't play an attritional game without a targetman, and I used the example of how Virgs was crucial to those tactics last season. With a balanced strike partnership up front, we NOW have the option to stiffen up our midfield with more defensive battlers and play more directly. However, I can never see McGhee going back to the very basic football of last season, one of the French wingers will definitely play and give us the creativity as well as bite in midfield.

Good point. I would be interested to hear who our current top scorer is of goals at this level (whether with us or other clubs). Does anyone know?

Him, but apart from him don't know
