It's not a new material, the Withdean flag was made out of cotton, it's the wrong material and shouldn't have been used to make a giant flag.
Ripstop nylon has been around for decades, it's the stuff yacht spinnakers and hot-air balloons are made of, it can be printed or painted and all sorts of clever stuff done with it.
I could just about carry two of these around without to much fuss, that's over 600 square meters.

How much would one be roughly?

A giant one that is, to be passed along the north or the lower east before games?

Until more than approx 5 of us can be arsed to fund and organise flags game after game then this thread is pointless. Given the abuse towards, apathy and leave early mentality of most, those of us who have organised flags such as the Dick Knight are unlikely to do further ones. For good reason - we can't afford nor carry more from the West stand storage area. These things don't just happen magically people! You need to do more than juat chip in. You need to help out! Consistently!

Could it be something the stewards could do, bring it out for each match, and store it afterwards for supporters? Hope I am not taking the pee, but that's the only way I can see it working. Giant flag would be brilliant for the north stand. Would look amazing.

Sounds like a good material, but do bear in mind budget, any idea what it works out at, per m2 printed and finished? The last flag was bought from a proper "massive flag" making company, not so much it was the wrong material, but the the wrong material for us and what we tried to do with it.

We were unique Phil. The only giant flag made of cotton in the world. Proper quality flags for buildings and regiments to carry in to battle are made of cotton, for every thing else there's Ripstop. Technically it's not a flag at all it's a banner.

Assuming you were something to do with the last flag. Can you explain whats been done with with the donated money that was collected beyond what was required for the last banner?

You're speaking to the converted, I've been in the print amd print related industry all my career, not that I've ever used ripstop, I've used other building wrap fabrics, voile, PVCs, Tyvek and Meshes etc though. When the REMF flag was bought it was ordered from a flag company, not by me, I wasn't involved with it from inception. I guess its what they reccomended. it wasn't printed, it was all sewn, I can only imagine they didn't really establish what it was to be used for before deciding to make it from that material. The flag company provided a fire certificate that we had to show to safety officers whenever we took it to away games, that's how I know it was a flag maker who made it.

Also I may be wrong, but didn't the supporters coaches refuse to take it along to games? I apologise if this is incorrect.

Nah, they were good about it, just sometimes it was difficult to get it to the coach without delaying them leaving.

Possibly my favourite memory of my tiny life is getting the flag out of my back garden and into a car at about 5am with Krispies.
