I don't drive either but we do a lot of walking. The 2 and the 12 have already been mentioned but the 28 and 29 are pretty good too. There are plenty of walks off the A27. We did one a few months ago just outside Uckfield - we walked just south of Crowborough but you could cut it shorter and rejoin the A27 for the bus back.

Nice walking across the fields at lunchtime, things drying out quickly. Time to put the wellies away
I've just walked to my "local", and then back again, a round trip of about 3.5 miles.
Although the footpath is mostly dry there's still some quite muddy patches, so the wellies will still be in use for a few more days.

It's quite a distance from Uckfield to the A27!
Did you mean the A22?

I know it's good for my mental health (and I've been v. v lucky in my life to backpack to some beautiful places in the world) but I realised today, living in central-ish Brighton, that I rarely nowadays "properly" get out into the countryside. Last time was a walk along the sisters from Seaford Head to the pub at Cuckmere Haven (my favourite Sussex walk).

I don't drive, and in fact for a month I've been suffering from painful fluid on my knees so my mobility is poor at moment, and all I do is wander around Preston Park, and sometimes down to "see the sea". Not exactly immersing myself in nature (and all the benefits to your mental health that this gives).

Where do you go?
Join the National Trust.
They have endless amounts of green spaces, walks and historical houses to mull over.
You make your money back with about 3 visits.

If you want to keep it really local and you wander around Preston Park anyway, then you can't beat the view from Hollingbury Hillfort!

Yup. I'm up there once or twice a week. It's just a stunning walk to have on our doorsteps. I'm pretty sure that one other poster on here is up there on a daily basis increasingly beckoning at least one of three dogs to get a wiggle on.

Edit: seems that said poster has already revealed their hand.

SHOREHAM BY SEA
Do enough walking behind a lawnmower during the week …so prefer to get on my bicycle…I’m north Shoreham…so 5 or so mins to the beach or north to the downs …quite like going on the downs link and the Stretch from Shoreham to Henfield (pit stop The Cabin) and back (pit stop at Flo’s) is quite straightforward and attractive to do

Withdean area
I have just started training for a hike in the Scottish Highlands and on Sunday I got my backpack on and headed out of Hove and up on the downs to Devils Dyke and then on to Saddlescombe farm. The sun was out and the scenery was incredible, really reminded me what a fantastic part of the world we live in!

I've cycled around that area since the March 2020 lockdown. We commented at the time how lucky we were/are to be 2 minutes from a stunning national park.

This site has lots of Sussex-based walks around Seven Sisters, South Downs Way, etc, all accessible by public transport. Most would probably be too long for you if you have mobility issues, but might be possible to do a small section of some of them:

Sullington
Sullington is IN the South Downs so every time I step outside the front door I am there,.

if I really want to stretch my legs I will walk up past Sullington Church to the top of the Downs and look upon my little Kingdom.

Which is where my Ashes are going in (hopefullay) a few years time.

I rode up to The Cabin yesterday. My first MTB ride in over 6 months - so ended up with a bit of a sore backside and burning thighs :ROFLMAO: Loved it though ...
