Avoid IKEA as they do their beds in European sizes (well they did last time I looked).

You are forced to buy a new matress from them.

Right here, right now
We bought a memory foam mattress from Dreams and it was awful - really uncomfortable and hot - in January!. Went back to them and they told keep it for 30 days, if we were still unhappy then, they would exchange it for another bed - which we did. We got a pocket sprung mattress which we are very happy with.

But their mattresses are cheap as feck anyway and seem good enough!

Brighton Bed Centre in Portland Road, Hove/Portslade.

Spent £500 on a pocket-sprung slice of orthapedic heaven, which came at least a foot thick. They even took the old one away.

Their matresses are top-notch, and made locally, so you are supporting a local business.

I've had a memory foam one from John Lewis & a pocket sprung one from Relyon. The foam one was ok, but it did get very warm. The pocket sprung one was fabulous, it's the one thing I didn't want to get rid of when I moved in with the present lover.

Whatever you do, don't scrimp, a good mattress with give you at least 10 years of service.
