The seaside.
I like pubs that are fairly quiet (not busy) so don't expect anyone to second them as I'm probably the only person who drinks in them but....

The Cornerstone
The Cuthbert
The Hampton Arms
The Colonnade (whilst theatre show is on, ie it has emptied)
The Ranelagh (on a non-music night)

...get my vote. As do plenty of others already mentioned.

The Spanish. although its technically about 5 metres out of Brighton and Hove boundary.

You have to have your minnows up against the Brazils and Spains of the Basketmakers and the Geese.

??? You mean the Spanish Ladyeee, when has any part of Saltdean been in Brighton?
Half of Saltdean is run by B&H council, that's all.

Has anyone read "Brighton's Best Pubs"?

Their top ten are:-

1. The Basketmakers
2. The Open House
3. The Hop Poles
4. The Pub With No Name
5. The Dragon
6. Sidewinder
7. Regency
8. Prestonville Arms
9. Walmer
10. The Wellington

All of those probably need to be entered into any NSC contest.

A really weird list. How was it decided upon?

Spot on. I actually visited it for the first time a few weeks back, doing a little Hanover crawl, and it was the most disappointing of all the pubs around there. A very weird atmosphere that thoroughly put me off ever returning

Thirded, it's all the dodgy guys in Hanover doing drugs while their missuses are home looking after the kids. It took on some of the more civilised over spill from the Spread & Lion & Unicorn shutting. I actually have a bit of a soft spot for the place truth be told.

If they get nominated and seconded then I am sure that they will.

The Mitre - decent pint & banter, no pretensions, no nonsense & extra points for tolerating rolling in late & worse for wear from boozing in town earlier.

Is that really the first mention of the Ranelagh? Amazing.

I'm most definitely giving that a seconding
