Well you can see the parallel with pens given against goalkeepers. The player in the area often does not have ANY control or authority over the ball more than the goallie, yet the striker falls over a blade of grass as the gk puts an arm out and bob's yer uncle.

The thing about the leeds pen, is that if our defending player had gone to ground, the ref would have allowed play to continue. The two players had equal rights over the ball, but our lad simply won it.....and PEEP it's a penalty. The referee IS a wanker.

Great highlights. Well done TGC. I still can't see how the D'Urso could have given that penalty. There was no shirt tugging, no question of handball. The only reason I can think that he gave that for was obstruction.....but never in a million years.

I hope D'Urso has invested wisely as his career as a ref should be cut short.

My first thought at the time was that it could have been handball but having watched it again several times it isnt. The fact that D'Urso said he gave it for shirt pulling is amazing given that the player ran in from behind Reid, bumped into the back of him and fell over. There wasnt even time for him to hold onto his shirt. Agree with the obstruction possibility but isnt that just an indirect freekick? Even when it happens in the area?
