No direct flights to Dresden ? Im sure i remember my grandad telling me he flew direct to Dresden once

You can fly directly to Leipzig from London, albeit from Stansted. Ryanair go there, and a quick glance around the dates you have provided shows a return for £43 each. Of course, you'll miss out on Bruges, but the time and money you save by flying could be put towards a trip to Belgium!

I have flown several times from Stanstead to Leipzig

I was in Trier in September......had a nice ice cream.

I'm planning on a trip to Cologne which is driveable in a day from Calais.
But a few things for you to ponder.
NSC pointed me to Ghent, one google search and I was hooked.
You can use Tesco points on the tunnel, three times their value.
Travelodge (or Premier Inn) at Folkstone a few minutes from tunnel. Rooms are £39 so may be worth a night for an early start thus only one overnight needed in Europe.*
Colditz is about 9 hours so only one halfway overnight is needed really.
Remember Europe* is one hour ahead of us.
For a free trip to Colditz, invade Germany.

*For clarity I quote Europe as everything over the channel. I know we are still Europe.

Thanks to [MENTION=34109]Yes Chef[/MENTION] I have manage to get direct flight for £67 for both of us from Stansted.

So we wont be driving now ! I love NSC and as suggested above the saving can go towards a weekend in Bruges later on.
