We expect to start ticket sales in the first quarter of 2005. Until then, we're sorry to say we cannot accept orders or make reservations, although all the information you will need regarding admission prices and the match schedule is available in advance: simply visit www.fifaworldcup.com for comprehensive and up-to-date information.

The 2006 FIFA World Cup Opening Match takes place on 9 June 2006 at the new stadium in München. The group games are divided among the 12 FIFA World Cup Host Cities between 9 and 23 June, the second phase of the tournament begins with the Round of 16 on 24 June, and the Final is on 9 July 2006 at the Berlin Olympic stadium.

The other host cities are Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hannover, Kaiserlautern, Köln, Leipzig, Nürnberg und Stuttgart.

Each Host City will stage a minimum of five matches, including four group matches each. The Round of 16 takes place in Dortmund, Hannover, Kaiserslautern, Köln, Leipzig, München, Nürnberg and Stuttgart.

Host cities for the quarter-finals are Berlin, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen and Hamburg, with the semi-finals in Dortmund and München and the third place play-off in Stuttgart.

No nations have been seeded at this stage: where the 32 finals participants will play and when will not be decided until the Final Draw in December 2005. This also applies to the host nation Germany. Kick-off times will also be finalised in December 2005. Each stadium will host at least two group stage games involving top seeded teams.

Tickets will be available in four categories, with category 4 tickets at 47 group stage games costing €35 including tax, handling charges and use of public transport but excluding postage and packing.

The precise sales mechanism will be decided at a later date: it is unfortunately not possible to order ahead of the official start of sales in the first quarter of 2005.

I'm hoping to go as well: should be a goodie.

Berlin is obviously the most exciting city, but Hamburg is pretty wild as well (I have friends in both so I'll be looking at those). Köln and Nürnberg are pretty good as well. Try to avoid Frankfurt, Hannover and Stuttgart, they're deathly dull. Dortmund is Germany's big brewery town and a big football place. Spent a rainy Tuesday night there a couple of years ago and I wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Never been to Munich, so here's my chance.

The place I'm looking to go though is Leipzig, never been there and have long wanted to.

Northstander are you sure you want to go? There maybe lots of nasty Engalnd fans there and after your outburst regarding the lad that got deported are you sure you want to mix with others that might bring the name of the Albion into disrepute?

A tip if people are planning to go and follow England, the World Cup is a 4 week tournament, so probably best for the group games to go back and forth from the UK for the say 2 days at a time and then stay out if we get to the knockouts. You will save a lot of euro's and holiday.

You could base yourself in Cologne for a while. It's a very nice city with a great bar scene (Kolsch, mmmmmm) and it's only a quick train ride away from Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern.

I'm going to try and get tickets for the Hamburg based games. Hopefully they'll be some interesting teams playing there. I'd rather see an African or South American country than a European one.

Reccommend Köln - beautiful city, and beautiful surroundings. i also love Berlin, esp. Potsdamer Platz, which is the best place ive ever been to - and theres a place i would reccommend to stay, thats slightly out of town, but has some great pubs nearby - ill get the name of the place for ya.

What on earth you on about, I have many friends who have been to the Euro's and never saw trouble and the bit they did as per my post, they walked away to avoid it. Hard as it is to do I know, I always thought this the best to avoid it

Turn up at the ticket office in Birmingham City Centre. Buy ticket. Go home. Travel to Villa Park. Watch game (with no crowd segregation, unreserved seats and terracing as well). Go home. Watch highlights on TV.

Marvellous. Shame it can't be like that any more.

If it is anything like the last World Cup a shit load. In Japan I had tickets for all 7 games that England could be involved in and I had to pay out £1100 up front. Granted I got the money back for the Semi and Final, but FIFA do not generally consider the average fan, coupled with the fact that Japan was expensive.

UEFA are much better with regards to ticket prices, I think I outlayed about £160 this time.
