It is difficult to put a single location to films these days. Looking at Country of origin on IMDB, we can pick from:
Recent/upcoming releases such as Isle of Dogs, Monster Family, Atomic Blonde,
Less recent films such as: Monster (Cherlize Theron), Cloud Atlas, Blade 2, Gran Torino (Eastwood), Jeepers Creepers, The Aviator, Zoolander, Sleepy Hollow, Rambo (the fourth one), Nacho Libre, The Neverending Story, Hair, Paris, Texas and others

The BBC have aired this movie before. A Stasi operative is required to spy on a household accused by gossips of being disloyal to the DDR state, but he finds himself increasingly absorbed by their lives. A really good film, which also successfully portrays a bleak and paranoid world behind the Iron Curtain.

The entire film is shot in one take, without a single cut. It's pretty amazing.

Although not a film, I liked " Deutschland 83" on TV a couple of years ago. The sequel should be out soon hopefully .

The Baader Meinhof Complex is a great watch. I've always found the story behind the terrorist group fascinating and I've long had a slight crush on Gudrun Enslinn and a rather bigger crush on the actress who plays her in the film.
They don't pull too many punches and so you see the idealism but also the the atrocities they carried out. Even so, the director does push the film towards the conclusion that they were ultimately good but misguided people and a very big hint that ***spoiler alert. Highlight blank bit if you want to see it*** they were murdered whilst in custody by the West German state. If you enjoy political action thrillers then you'll probably love this film.

Leni Riefenstahl's propaganda movie, glamourising the beginnings of a murder machine.
Not necessarily enjoyable, but an insight into mass hysteria and manipulation.
