Absolute bollocks mate
How can the absolute truth, backed up by verifiable facts, be absolute bollocks? That's as stupid as me saying to you 'get off this Crystal Palace fan site'.

Mate.

A Crack House
Wouldn’t it be amazing though if he, George Galloway newly elected MP for Rochdale, Greater Manchester, as the sole representative in parliament for a political party was able to achieve what the EU, UN, NATO and the USA hasn’t been able to, namely a ceasefire in Gaza?!

Because that’s all it’s about apparently.

Cancer patient can’t get to hospital for your chemotherapy?! Tough.

Homeless?! Ditto.

He’s also vowed to save Rochdale FC I see. Who announced talks with new investors yesterday.

Charlatan.

One side of extremists want the Palestinian kids to be murdered and the other side of "extremists" doesn't want that to happen, gosh yes they are exactly the same

Honestly coming out with this during a time when the Tories (Right) and Labour (Centre) are indistinguishable from each other is quite something

Centrists think it's a regrettable neccessity that cuts imposed by rightwing governments get passed on to local residents, you are seeing an echo of this in Brighton now with the new Labour council axing loads of services, supported by the Right, opposed by the Left.
It's naive to believe that it's only those that agree with the ideology that are currently cutting services in local government. Every council is having to do it because the funding crisis is so severe that publishing a balanced budget is more challenging than it has ever been: https://www.theguardian.com/society...s-expect-to-go-bust-in-next-year-survey-finds.

One consequence of a Section 114 notice is that central government can intervene in how services are run.
That's this government!
Councils of all political hues will do everything they can to possibly avoid that, but for a left wing administration it would be it's worst nightmare.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Griffin does this crap all the time, it's just for attention as he knows dumb journalists who hate Galloway will put his name back in the newspapers. Griffin hates Galloway's politics because Griffin is a virulent Islamophobe.

This nonsense about diametrical opposites supposedly agreeing with each other is called "horseshoe" theory but it's better called horseshit theory because it falls apart as soon as you look at the actual political issues.

Take the two biggest issues in the Rochdale by-election, service cuts and the Gaza genocide. On these two issues, it's the Centre and Right who agree with each other, with the Left opposing.

Centrists think it's a regrettable neccessity that cuts imposed by rightwing governments get passed on to local residents, you are seeing an echo of this in Brighton now with the new Labour council axing loads of services, supported by the Right, opposed by the Left.

Then of course there is the Gaza genocide. Centrists will do sad-face about the dead civilians and kids but will agree with the Right that no action should be taken against Israel for their murderous policies. Only the Left believes Israel needs to be sanctioned to avoid Palestinians being wiped out.
LocaL Councils are having to cut services because Central government is starving them of cash. The Tories actually want councils to declare bankruptcy because it plays into their hands of promoting Special Enterprise Zones where land grabs can be made.

I disagree with a huge amount of stuff Galloway stands for and I could list them in no order of importance:
He was wrong on Brexit
He was wrong on Scottish independence
He doesn't support humane policy towards trans people in this country
He is personally undisciplined and spouts stuff that you'd expect someone on a football messageboard to say as bantz rather than thinking it through

But for all that, I'm pleased he won because his presence at Westminster will rachet up pressure on the British Establishment to do something about stopping the genocide in Gaza. It's the key moral issue of our time.

Yesterday a picture on social media was circulated showing a young Palestinian kid flattened by a tank, it's genuinely the most appalling thing you'll ever see in your life and I do fear the anger it and 100s of other similar images will inevitably create could radicalise people in this country to do stupid things. It's vital there a cogent, political opposition to the war crimes and, for all his faults, Galloway provides that. We are often lectured by centrists that "grown-up" politics involves backing people you don't agree with 100%, well yes - this is that time

But the effect of this is that Labour councils get blamed for the cuts. One of the reason why so many in the north swallowed Johnson's lies about "levelling up" is that they have been ruled by Labour councils all their lives and polling showed they blamed local politicians for it. The true naivity is thinking you can just be middle-men passing on shit policies and people won't care, they do very much and the data shows it

And let people like Galloway take over? There is a lot wrong with both Labour and more wrong with the Tories but letting in extremist of either end of the spectrum is plain disastrous.
Indeed. The man is an absolute piece of work. Claiming that up is down to justify his choices:

"Scott Long, writing in The Guardian on 31 March, criticised Galloway's claim that "homosexuals are not executed in Iran, just rapists," pointing out that current law in the country stipulates that "Penetrative sex acts between men can bring death on the first conviction."[184] Gay rights activist Peter Tatchell, writing in The Guardian on 26 March, wrote that Galloway's "passionate opposition to a war against Iran, which I share, seems to have clouded his judgement" and "his claim that lesbian and gay people are not at risk of execution in Iran is refuted by every reputable human rights organisation, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission and the International Lesbian and Gay Association".[185]"

"In August 2010, on his Press TV programme The Real Deal, Galloway interviewed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, following Galloway's participation in a conference for expatriate Iranians whose expenses were paid by Iran's government.[59] Concerning the case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman convicted of adultery and sentenced to stoning, which he described as "the so-called stoning case". Galloway said of Ashtiani's sentence during the interview: "Every so often an issue comes along which is seized upon by the enemies of Iran and it becomes a heavy problem and magnified ...".[186][187]"

His reasons for support for Julian Assange beggars belief:

"Galloway continued by stating: "But even taken at its worst, if the allegations made by these two women were true, 100 per cent true, and even if a camera in the room captured them, they don't constitute rape, at least not rape as anyone with any sense can possibly recognise it." He also stated that "not everybody needs to be asked prior to each insertion."[206][207][208] He continued by saying that the allegations, even if true, "don't constitute rape" because initiating sex with someone who is asleep after a sexual encounter the previous night is not rape (one of the women, he said, "woke up to him [Assange] having sex with her again – something which can happen, you know").[205] He said that Assange's alleged actions amounted to no more than "bad sexual etiquette", and he did not believe the women's story anyway.[204]"

And of course, is anti-Semitism, which he defends with weasel words. Like they all do.

"On 20 February 2013, Galloway walked out of a publicised debate when he found out that his opponent had Israeli citizenship. The debate, hosted by Oxford University's Christ Church,[218] was on the topic "Israel should withdraw immediately from the West Bank". Galloway interrupted his opponent, Eylon Levy, a third-year PPE student,[219][220] to ask whether he was an Israeli. When Levy acknowledged his joint British-Israeli nationality,[221] Galloway stood up and stated "I don't recognize Israel and I don't debate with Israelis" and left the meeting.[222][223][224][225][226][227][228] Explaining his actions on his Facebook page, Galloway wrote:

The reason is simple: no recognition, no normalisation. Just boycott, divestment and sanctions, until the apartheid state is defeated. I never debate with Israelis nor speak to their media. If they want to speak about Palestine – the address is the PLO.[229]"

Finally, is this the way to deal with conflict? This in 2014. The man is a disingenuous lying anti-Semite.
.
"On 2 August 2014, during the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict, Galloway delivered a speech at a public meeting in Leeds.[236][237] He said:

We have declared Bradford an Israel-free zone. We don't want any Israeli goods, we don't want any Israeli services, we don't want any Israeli academics coming to the university or the college, we don't even want any Israeli tourists to come to Bradford even if any of them had thought of doing so. We reject this illegal, barbarous, savage state that calls itself Israel. And you have to do the same.[238][237]"

There is plenty more if you have the stomach to read about a man with sincerely held prejudiced beliefs wrapped up like cold chips in the wet rhetoric of liberation struggle politics.

Point of order. It isn’t genocide, but I know what you mean. It’s indiscriminate killing, maybe. (aka collateral). But IDF aren’t killing everyone that’s a Palestinian just because or the casualty rate would be a lot lot higher. Hundreds of thousands if not million+
1 If Israel is not committing a genocide and targetting civilians, then why are they scorching fields and tearing up crops?
  1. Why are they banning water desalination
  2. Why did Israel bomb water pipes and reservoirs?
  3. Why did they bomb bakeries and why so many?
  4. Why not let in medicine? (Over 1000 children have had amputations without anaesthesia)
  5. Why is Israel only allowing 100-200 trucks a day (it was we over 500 before the conflict)
  6. Why do they insist only on manual inspection when before they used state of the art x-rays (don’t say Egypt Israel controls that border)
  7. Why when a single item is rejected (e.g tents with metal poles) do they reject the whole truck starting the 3 week process all over again
  8. Why do they bomb hospitals
  9. Why is the entire population experiencing famine? (IPC level 5)
When Yehiel Moshe "Hili" Tropper apart of the IDF intelligence cabinet was asked by Havertz last week why Israel doesn't "Flood Gaza with food seeing as food can't be used as a weapon" he responded "We are at war with all of them"

I had to check it was 1st March and not 1st April.

The greatest comeback since Lazarus.

Is this Labour showing their first sign of weakness or chinks in the armour?

The first issue with the Labour candidate was flagged up way before the nomination papers were even printed, all it needed was some rational decisions made at the top level, and the Labour Party would have another MP this morning.

You do realize the labour 'candidate' was no longer endorsed by Labour? If the 'issue' was flagged up before he was selected, please do provide a link. This is the first I have heard of this.

Galloway fills the moral void left by Tory and Labour policy on Gaza. On that topic he speaks the truth. Delighted he won.

The UK Govt. should sanction not support or sell arms to the genocidal, apartheid, colonial oppressor state of Israel, purveyors of indiscriminate collective punishment (https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/n...llow-adequate-humanitarian-aid-to-reach-gaza/) persistently breaching international law https://apnews.com/article/israel-p...s-gaza-hamas-18680f6ce9d8508d59c006780e23b346 and serially in defiance of previous UN resolutions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_Nations_resolutions_concerning_Israel)
etc.

Or Post no 67 on THIS thread. Come on, keep up

Just realised that now they've been merged, Harry is probably wondering where his thread and all his posts have gone :lolol:
Yeah, both threads have now disappeared. But I can read the posts if I look up a reply to stuff I posted on my thread.
Given the jubilation from those on the right and extreme left of Starmer at Gorgeous' win, my suspicion that these types would rather see a racist elected than a labour candidate is confirmed.

Corbyn? Really? He gifted the Tories their greatest ever landslide

Ignore the later post, you were on the right lines.

Corbyn delivered Labour‘s worst general election defeat since 1935 with just 202 seats. The 32% share of the vote only beaten by Foot in 1983.

Being an apologist for Putin the mass murderer and helping to hide anti semite mates in the LP in the end a huge turn off for the UK.

I've been a fan of his in the past, but he is a bit of a political weirdo; he seems to inhabit some space beyond either Right or Left. And whilst that might be the case for a lot of people (those who are economically Left but culturally Right for example) he takes it to extremes. If I were a cynical sort I'd say he picks whatever position will get him the most publicity.

Sad for Rochdale that he unashamedly put their issues second, I'm not sure I'd want an MP whose admitted focus was elsewhere.
I have read about him for 30 years in Private Eye. The common threads to his doings is vanity and venality. He is largely in it for the money, and has managed to monetize a range of 'plausible' activities. Like Farage, but surfing a different set of causes to make a different money-making phenotype.

And of course we can all agree with some things said by both. Like a stopped clock, correct twice a day.

Does he now stop claiming his Parliamentary pension now he’s back in the House?

Variation on a theme, my older brother has a flat very near the house which for a number of years he’s rented out to various MPs. In 1997 his existing tenant, a Tory MP was standing down, so when President Blair swept to power as was the drill various offices got in touch regarding a new tenancy. He ended up with a Lib Dem from the West Country, who when they met up to go through all the details told him it would only be for one term, the candidate a retired person had not been expected to win.

Come 2001 my brother got in touch to wish him well, only to be told he would be seeking a second term, it turned out once an MP has won two General Elections they qualify for the MP final salary pension.

So the moral of this story, as we all found out locally, is whatever colour their rosette is, once they get to the trough and like the taste of the water, they are all as bad as each other. 🤷‍♂️
How on earth do you conclude that, on the back of a Lib Dem, who probably didn't expect to win first time round, deciding he'd like to fight to win the seat again? Rumour has it that a tiny percentage of aspiring parliamentarians seek to contribute to the public good. Perhaps he's one? ???

And in any case, Galloway has already been elected enough times to get the pension so you can hardly accuse him of doing this for that trough. In his case, the annual salary is probably what appeals, albeit he is unlikely to see even one full year of that :lolol: .

They are not all as bad as each other. That's the most lazy of tropes, one that you appear to have absorbed, possibly by osmosis, by reading tory apologists (having seen yet another of their guys marched out, possibly in cuffs, it is the first mantra they reach for - all as bad as each other).

Your judgement is all squiffy today, old fruit
