No, I've experienced it having worked in schools over the last twenty or so years in Liverpool and here in Sussex. Thankfully, the idea of a sports day where there are no winners or losers is dying a death.

I have always instilled in my boys that with life and sport its not the winning that counts but the grinding your opponent so far into the ground that the filthy vermin will never ever ever dare to challenge you or even look you in the eye ever again! NEGAN STLYE:moo:

My kids' school seem totally confused. They have non-competitive sports day but also a school football and netball team. They have a 'prizes for everyone' mentality about educational and behaviour awards and then moan when the kids don't do their homework. They drill for tests while complaining about the necessity of tests. Last year, after a bad OFSTED about how they were letting down the older and brighter kids they did special clubs to extend high achieving kids in English and Maths and ran a coding club, Now that OFSTED have been back in and upgraded them they're back to teaching the Juniors Maketon. I think it's just bad leadership rather than a left wing conspiracy though.

Sounds like it.

What people, adults and younglings alike must understand is the difference between unFAIR and unJUST.

Unfair must be lived with, accepted and understood in terms of we can't always get what we want but the wheel comes back round and what I lose on the roundabout I'll make up for on the swing. Donald Trump winning the election is unfair but, given the circumstances not unjust.

Unjust is to be rallied against and stood up to and where possible, must not be tolerated. George W Bush vote rigging is an example of Unjust behaviour.

Outside of the pages of the Daily Mail, has anyone ever actually witnessed such a thing? We used to hear a lot about these sports days - normally in some angry article about a left-wing local authority, like Lambeth or somewhere, but its basically bullshit, isn't it? A couple of isolated incidents, in schools led by misguided individuals - then extrapolated by foaming at the mouth crappy editorials, into a national malaise, that never existed.

They should have held sports days where everyone loses. This would better equip and prepare our footballers for their future.

Middle class parents complain about non-competitive sports days but when there is competition in the class room and they realise their darling daughter isn't as bright as they thought they still complain (and blame everyone). You can't have it both ways.

Yes I've witnessed it as recently as 2 years ago in my kids primary school in mid Sussex

It's just a lazy term picking up on the actions of a minority and applying it as a generalisation.

Similar to the idea that everyone on the left is an appeaser or a bit wet and that everyone on the right is some kind of rabid bigot.

Certainly have no loser sports days in south London. My kids sports day is a horrible soppy affair and If anything it frustrates the kids as much as anything else as they want to compete properly.

Exactly the same as my kids , they hated it.

Middle class parent "But Daisy is sooo creative"
Correctly answering Teacher "No she ****ing isn't"

I was always of the impression sports days were an inclusive event, giving the kids who were too Joey to get into a sports team a chance to lose in front of the whole school and their parents?

As an aside, most young adults I meet are pretty thick skinned, go getting whizz bangers.

I'm afraid they exist, the last 2 for my nephew have been so. Trying to stifle a will to win from young kids is mind boggling really.

Yeah it does, but it's not really that big a deal. The idea as I understand it is just for the kids to be active. Most kids don't really care and just see it as a bit of fun.

From my own kids experience, schools do have other avenues for competitive sports. Usually in more traditional sports such as football, athletics, rugby etc.

The FA guidance on youth football is quite interesting

http://www.thefa.com/news/2015/Dec/09/fa-reiterates-youth-league-results-position-091215

Again from my own kids playing in these type of leagues I can say that it doesn't hamper them at all.

Im just relaying what I've been told. Working class parents behave quite differently. I'm prepared to admit my research is based on quite limited info though....and I'm generalising.

Most kids don't really care ? Certainly not with my kids or their mates, or other kids judging by other posts on here

Believe you me, that kind of behaviour isn't confined to the middle class. The lower class parents are more likely to think that their child is the next x factor or BGT star though.
