It’s a sad state of affairs that the majority of the comments on here are talking of getting the Tories out. I wish if we are going to have a Labour government it was because we are excited about their policies and not just because they’re the only other party capable of defeating the Tories. Very sad indeed.

It's certainly a normal state of affairs, or at least certainly has been for the most of the last 50 or 60 years. The government of this country has been elected because a majority don't want the other lot in power, not because they and their policies are admired and wanted.

Pavilion is an interesting one , wouldn't be surprised if the Tories got in with all the other non Tory candidates out there.

I thought Libs & Labour need to agree tactical voting but maybe that would give the Libs too much power.... Anyone read any analysis of the potential numbers and how that could turn into seats?

Electoral calculus have them at a 6.9% share of the vote and 0% chance of winning the pavilion seat.

Best-case scenarios I’ve seen predicted for libs is about 55-60 seats. Whilst this would be historically high for them, it’d still only be commensurate with their current popular polling figures of around 10%.

Were you excited about austerity then? About food banks at every church and community centre? Were you excited by sacking over 20,000 experienced police officers and now trying to replace them with raw recruits? Were you excited by running the NHS, social care and ambulance services into the ground? Or court delays running into years? Or having all our prisons full to capacity?

Perhaps you were excited by leaving the EU? I’d genuinely like to know, what made you excited to vote Conservative once in 2010, and again afterwards?

Im proud to have voted Conservative and Im in no doubt whatsoever today the right things were announced. We already do far more than other countries to help the plant. Just hope we dont get any oil nutters tomorrow night

It may be better for you to start a positive thread extolling the reasons people should follow your lead and keep voting conservative rather than offering embarrassing and illiterate sniping contributions on the existing threads

Every 18-year-old would choose between joining the military or volunteering one weekend a month in the community.

It's hardly National Service. You can already join the forces at 18 anyway. This would just make it easier.

I wouldn't be against some kind of compulsory community service during a teenagers life that served to educate and make them socially conscious. The options look quite enticing.

Why in that case should it just be teenagers? There are plenty of adults that have no sense of civic responsibility so why not have compulsory community service for all adults right through to retirement! I suspect most of the loons calling for national service would soon baulk at it if it applied to them.

That’s one way of looking at it.

The other way is that the only answer to tidying up the place and restoring our forces after over a decade of austerity is fear, conscription and slavery.

I wouldn’t rule out Sunak going for the death penalty’s return before the six weeks are up.
