Had a letter from Maria’s office yesterday talking about her achievements in the constituency. It’s pretty hilariously thin reading.

Let’s break these down:

- getting a “brand new” medical hub. Failed with zero actual progress.

- voted for something ethical once in the Commons (under the whip)

- a traffic light proposal (pending)

- contributed to closure of our remaining high street banks

- had some traffic lights actually installed

- improved mail services (?!) - they’ve never ever been an issue where I live


Absolutely desperate showing

The traffic lights at Exceat bridge are still temporary similar to road works.
The ‘improved mail service’ were countrywide Royal Mail employment conditions which resulted in mass resignations and very little mail being delivered in Newhaven. My birthday last August, we hadn’t had any mail for 10 days, so my husband went to the sorting office to find all of the missing mail.
He was told there are 16 rounds in the town & they only had 9 posties. The rest had all left due to the changes.
It has gradually improved since then but not due to the MP.

Indeed. He already said he's voting for Farage, and when pilloried and questioned by dozens of voters, he failed to respond. Instead, this.

One is tempted to suspect he's lost his tiny mind. Sad, for a moderator.

At least I can say he's not vindictive and has not used his position of privilege to ostracize (thread-ban) people who are aghast at his 'reasoning'.

You are clearly going to be a MASSIVE loser from this election come Thursday but to claim that Labour won’t be the winner with a stonking supermajority can only come from a person with the same relationship to truth as Boris Johnson and the same relationship to reality as Liz Truss.

I'm not standing in this election - so I can't see how I am going to be a MASSIVE loser? And I haven't claimed 'Labour won't be the winner with a stonking supermajority'... what an odd reply. You might be right about the pointless bit though!

In theory, Caulfield should’ve been a slam dunk. NHS nurse, commoner, local - she’s just thoroughly, entirely invisible. Her voting record is astonishing, in that from what I can tell she hasn’t defied the whip in her six and a half years.

Locally, she oversaw the installation of a set of traffic lights. I’ve never once, ever seen her in Seaford.

The only time she became visible was to scream victim. Several women demonstrated in Lewes singing How do solve a problem like Maria, dressed as nuns from Sound of Music. She screamed they were abusing her Catholic religion (I doubt they even knew), and after the Brexit vote her Newhaven office, had stickers with B****** to Brexit on, stuck on the door and window. She screamed her office had been vandalised & her worker, who was pregnant, was terrified.
She’s quite fond of hyperbole, is our Maria.

here's another: knowing they'll lose, it's strategic, looking ahead to confine Labour to current tax programme. any significant tax rises and next election it's all "see, you cant trust Labour, say one thing and do another".

(This is something that worries me. When there is an inevitable 'tax rise' on something not explicitly mentioned in the labour manifesto, will people think "The tories were right. Labour have lied after all. I wish I'd voted Tory, and will do so next time"? Some will, for sure. But it is always the overall 'feel' about HMG at election time that counts. If we don't 'feel' good about Starmer-Labour in 5 years they will be booted out. I'm OK with that. It is what it is. As long as it is predicated by reality rather than conmanship- *cough* Brexit *cough*).

The vote in question, Tory MP’s voted unanimously (it was their own proposal, to counter a much stronger one which actually called for far more scrutiny).

It really goes to show the importance of fact-checking. What it really means is “voted with the whip on our own policy, which was to protect interest from lobbying parties who don’t want scrutiny on all the illegal stuff we’re doing”.

Utter garbage.

My instinct is to the right. Huge numbers of blue rinsers and CFC-esque little Britain oafs in the constituencies are blaming your friend Sunak for being a high taxation liberal, the wrong creed?, for everything under the sun. I’ve never done newspaper politics, but being a Telegraph subscriber for other interests, I did have a glance at the comments on recent polling. Reform/Truss type now dominate, although the DT itself is anti Reform. Funny thing was, I posted half a dozen posts against Truss and Farage, all polite and objective, one was deleted by a moderator , the others were widely pilloried.

If I’m right, there’ll be a party that might get 30% in future GE’s, see France and Italy. The Africa/climate change cause thing isn’t going away. But god I hope not. Annoyingly we’re going to see an awful lot more of Parker from Thunderbirds in the years to come.

If Starmer brings in a law to ban the Telegraph he will have done one good thing at least!

Ahhhh but doesn’t this happen every time Labour get in? The key is being proactive and pushing hard for key policies early and fast, using that supermajority to their advantage. I’m thinking Blair in ‘97.

I don't believe @Titanic has said he's voting for Farage. AFAIK he's always been a paid up member of the Conservative party.

You may be confusing him with another moderator @Giraffe who is voting for Farage.
