[Politics] General Election 2024 - 4th July

Stripped the heart of the youth services as part of their obsession in austerity
I know. I worked at a council run youth club two evenings a week for almost twenty years on a rough council estate. It kept the majority of those kids out of prison.

Someone mentioned on the BBC there is around 4 million undecided voters, that is a decent chunk.

This just seems like an odd election, the result was known months ago, but will that put some people off going to the polls and voting for Labour.
I think you're right about the polls potentially having effects on turnout, and also that the result of a Labour majority is all but confirmed. That said, there's massive fluctuation in each constituency and, for the majority of them, it's all to play for.

I actually have close family in Saffron Walden, is that in this constituency? Shall i ring them and tell them who to vote for, is that what you’re suggesting?

May not be a bad idea, shirley you certainly wouldn't want them suffering from making the same mistakes you did

Yup, it is. This is my constituency. It was formally called 'Saffron Walden' but the latest boundary changes mean it is now called 'North West Essex.'

I saw Kemi in the local Nisa the other evening, buying tomatos. She looked pretty relaxed about things tbf.

This does seem a lot, but how does this compare with previous elections? Could be people who do not see the point as it's allegedly a foregone conclusion, conflicted tories or the usual floating voters?

Now that must be a disappointing name change, Saffron Walden has a nice twee middle-class ring to it whereas North West Essex.......

Win-win.

If booted out, will make millions a year from Non-Exec director roles and the US uni lecture circuit (Alt Right states).

Yes, I will be joining @Bozza on his thread for the all-nighter once I’ve finished at the Polling Station. I think I will need lots of coffee to get me through work on Friday but I have never missed a General Election all nighter ever since I was old enough to vote.

I've taken next Friday off work ... but I still have to get up early to do school run and take my cat to the vet .

So much better in Australia - elections are on Saturday's, so you've got Sunday to recover from the all nighter. Not to mention the joy that is grabbing a "democracy sausage" on the way out from voting.

Yup. She can't lose really. If she wins she can have the Party leadership if she wants it, seemingly. If she loses, she's quids in, in the USA.

I rather like it being Thursday. Friday is snooze day and then you have the full weekend to either celebrate or commiserate.

You live in the Saffron Walden area? I’ve visited before, I liked the town, interesting history. Cambridge too, loved it.

I bet the letters column in the local rag is lively?
I'll take a look. My daughter has a paper round, delivering the Saffron Walden Weekly. I normally ask her to keep a couple back for me but I just use it to stuff my son's football boots when they get wet.

It’s perfect. A lazy Friday to recover from little sleep, watching the box as helicopters follow the new PM’s route, and the analysis. With a weekend still to come.
