Gods country fortnightly
BBC fact check on yesterdays head to head between the main leaders, not impressed by Sunk.

Sunak just went for it last night, throw as many untruths out there and something sticks.

Really hope Starmer cleans up politics, we need the public to have their trust restored in democracy

IF the LD’s are the official opposition, shirley serious closer EU ties are inevitable.

Interesting how free movement for 18-30 or 18-35 nationals is openly being discussed. Several folk here have mentioned for an age.
Because it was offered by the EU, so a realistic possibility.

The opposition will have no say on government policy when there is a majority, and the majority party is not split. I haven't seen any clamour in the labour party to have closer ties with the EU, but I imagine we will, and this will be supported by the liberals. But the howls of 'betrayal' from the ERG zombies and Farage and his chum (come on, they aren't going to get 3 MPs) will be ghastly to experience.

So maybe you are right.

As an aside, free movement of high fee-paying students, in my experience we treat the Chinese very badly. The threshold standard of English is far too low for the worst of them to function, and 'we' have set it low so that we get lots of high fee paying students in. Admittedly it is their own fault if they cheat on the language tests to get accepted, as some clearly do. And then if they have resits the rigmarole over visas is nightmarish. And yet they still come. It seems that we are far and away number 2 choice for Chinese students wanting to study abroad (the US has always been number one).

From talking to active Labour Party members local to me, there is a desire to forge closer links with Europe at that level, but clearly the party leadership are petrified of mentioning the B word, so that won't be mentioned at all.

Indeed. I certainly won't be mentioning it

(I may have mentioned it earlier, but I think I got away with it).

Disappointing age discrimination.

I'd hoped we'd moved on from that.

Reversing Brexit can't realistically start until the majority of those who supported it, the "Red Wall" and elsewhere, realise that they were lied to and sold a pup. The's not going to happen overnight as victims of confidence tricks are notoriously difficult to convince they've been conned; it's going to take years.
A good start will be releasing the unredacted Russia report.

Ed Davey answered that. The EU are only offering up to 35 or 30 :(.

Wondering if that's partly due to the millions of Brits who've settled in the EU, in many cases driving up property prices? Locals in several regions are now furious about this, as part of a wider thing against wealthy Swiss, Germans, Swedes, Dutch, French who've done the same.

What sort of proportion do you think have currently realised and what proportion still need convincing ?

You could be right. All the polls indicated a clear victory for remain at the Brexit referendum and I believe a lot of remainers didnt turn out to vote because they believed the result was already a foregone conclusion. I appreciate referendums and GE's are two different things, but I feel the foregoing and the fact that a lot of Tory voters won't admit they are, publicly, will produce a closer result than currently predicted. I sincerely hope not, though.
Not true. In the final month of the 2016 referendum campaign there were 43 polls: 21 for Leave, 19 for Remain, 3 Tie.

We don't need to reverse Brexit (ie re-join the EU), we need to re-join the single market in some form.
Edit: Oh and if Starmer does end up with a massive majority he doesn't have to persuade anyone. He knows it is the right thing to do so he should just get on with it. Future governments of any colour wouldn't reverse it.
