Sunak had a tactic which was to push the rules and bank on a weak moderator (someone who normally presents and doesn't interview a bit like bruce) rolling over. It worked for him to a point. Dissection in 45 seconds was alway going to be a challenge.

I don't know much about the format but last time there was a multi party debate I was surprised how much the smaller parties turned on the main opposition

Together with another 140 other candidates still to find as of two days ago. But it is down from the almost 200 that the Conservatives needed to find when Rishi caught them out with that surprise election announcement.

They have to be selected by end of tomorrow don't they?

A Tory candidate in key battleground seat has quit the election race after being exposed for making lurid sexual comments about women.

Magistrate Sam Trask, expected to “respect the dignity of all” in his judicial role, once boasted his favoured bra size measuring technique was “hand sizing them by feel”. In the unearthed graphic online post, he added: “Maybe have to make a more detailed inspection with my lips and tongue... for accuracy, of course.”

But after being confronted by the Mirror, married father-of-two Trask apologised for the “wholly inappropriate” comments and said he had “decided to withdraw as a candidate”. In another comment, the primary school governor who brags about his charity work, asked: “if a woman with big boobs seems to idly rub them against you, is she flirting or are they really just getting in the way?”

And in a discussion about chat-up lines, Trask crudely suggested: “Hey there, wanna come to my place and watch porn on my 50 inch flat screen mirror?” Trask – who has met PM Rishi Sunak and spoken at Tory conference – was picked as the Conservative candidate in Bridgend, Wales, where the party has a slim majority.

I'm not either of them, but surely can't be alone in thinking that if Rory Stewart had won the Tory leadership instead of Boris the country would have been far better run, we wouldn't have had Truss and Sunak foisted on us, we'd probably still be in the Customs Union and the Tories would be competitive in this election.

Sure, centrism has to have some compromise in it, but when you're compromising away from tanking the economy with unfunded tax cuts, yelling at immigrants and pissed up pandemic parties I'd say the notions of compromise, thought, gravitas and service that Stewart would have brought would convince many that the centre ground offers a lot, whether it's centre-right One Nation Tories, the LDs or Kier. No, there's not much between them. No, I don't care that there isn't.

I'm not attracted to it for the reasons someone else gave re macron. Was explaining that when parties fracture, unless there is some equal distribution then the centre can become too safe.

In raw terms that's well within striking of Labour given the current polls and the constituency did return a Labour MP in the Blair years.if

However, she is a relatively popular politician with Tory voters which may be enough for her to be re-elected in Portsmouth North and if she does lose I wouldn't be surprised if she wins the Richmond (Yorks) by-election which I predict will take place Soon after the GE and certainly before conference season.

The Telegraph is now panicking, (excellent), (bstds), that the latest YouGov poll is showing the Tories at 19% with Reform at 17%

But still crazy that 36% of the population don’t think the current Tory party are far enough to the right.

I still think when it comes to actually voting reform poll numbers will dive and most will vote Tory
