Why would people be embarrassed there is only one real choice with Corbyn leading the labour party.
I am not embarrassed to say I have voted Tory but also I do not see the point in trying to wind up my friend's and family by posting every two minutes about nasty labour etc.

Several left-leaning people on NSC have explained the phenomenon by stating that Tory voters are either ashamed or embarrassed to say as much. I was just saving them the bother of saying it again.

I like the word Embarrashamed though. I shall use it more.

I have yet to see ONE dog with a TORY rosette on today whilst I PROUDLY walked up to VOTE with my poodle JEZZA wearing the most MASSIVE red rosette you've ever seen and I saw 100's if not 1000's of other DOGS with RED rosettes on too.

I bet those red dogs leave their shite everywhere because they are on strike.:shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit::shit:

Indeed. It's the usual internet distortion of the phenomenon of the 'shy tory.' Nothing to do with shame or embarrasment but rather a lack of interest in being harangued by the other side. This thread has ample evidence of the refusal by many on the new left to enter into civilized discussion and as such they won't be persuading anyone of their viewpoint. They will then blame everyone but themselves for defeat.

I would characterise this as Tories being 'nice' and Socialists being 'angry' :D

It's hardly something originating with lefties on NSC - the notion of the "shy Tory" is a long-standing and well-evidenced phenomenon in the world of political polling and the pollsters spend a lot of time, energy and money devising statistical methodologies to try and correct for it. It's also pretty well-established (and again not by lefties) that it does originate from some kind of embarrassment or shame at voting Tory, because rightly or wrongly (as a lefty, I tend to think rightly...) it's widely perceived as something that's driven by selfishness rather than a broader view of public or social benefit.

I'll say it to save a lefty the bother:

People are so embarrassed to be voting Conservative that they'll keep quiet, not post their voting intention 79 times a day to social media and not put up a poster in their window.

Embarrassed. And probably ashamed too. Embarrashamed if you will. They know they're doing some really bad and don't want to draw attention to themselves.

I really don't get it though. I've got two friends on my FB who are staunch Tory and very proud of it. One is an old school friend who I don't see so much but who works for a local Tory MP and is quite open with her allegiances and opinions. Another is one of my best mates, a bloke I can go out and get smashed with any time but who I also trust implicitly with many things including my family. He's got an "I'm voting Conservative" banner at the bottom of his FB profile pic right now. Buzzer is one of the most eloquent and interesting posters on this board when he puts his mind to it and an admitted and loud One Nation Tory.

People who've been on this thread regularly know I could never vote Tory but I certainly don't hate them. On the other hand I have been called (incorrectly) snowflake and lefttard by the right.

The Tories are in government. They have by far the most donations. They dominate the press. Buy The Sun and you're pretty much carrying round a Theresa May billboard (no need for a poster then). What's there to be scared of?

I can only think the shy ones really are embarrashamed. That says as much about them as the Tory party surely?

I like the word Embarrashamed though. I shall use it more.

Good word - worth nicking myself .

If you think Socialists are angry have you seen the average feed of a UKIP supporter?

These left-leaning people have no idea. The same thing happened in the last two elections and especially with 'leave' voters in the referendum. I heard a woman on a phone-in during that saying something like 'l will vote leave but I won't tell anyone as I'll just get called a racist or an idiot. I'm neither but I just want to be out of the EU without all the hassle that goes with being singled out'. When any Tory voter is being berated by the left for being anti children, oaps, disabled, NHS and pro money-grabbing big business and the ultra rich then it makes sense just to go vote and keep your head down. There is so much bitterness and hatred in the campaigning that I doubt that many Tory voters are going round with blue anything - let alone a rosette.

That website says each child at our school will lose £9 under the Tories. How does that correlate with their manifesto that states 'No school will have its budget cut as a result of the new funding formula'?

If a school budget remains the same but everything is more expensive (due to inflation) and there are more students then the budget per pupil will go down. Note that the Tories said nothing about funding per pupil. (Most schools are also currently hugely underfunded from the last round of budget cuts anyway - as an example when I started my current post 3 years ago my budget for the faculty for the year was £3000+. This year it is £900 and will be cut again next year. Given many textbooks are £25+ this does not go very far!)

It's a sad state of affairs, but if we don't sell them arms, someone else will. Of course it's morally crap, but do we want money in our economy or not? Sure, we could change, we could all be hippies - in with hate, out with love - but you won't like the poor country we end up with.

I would genuinely rather live on a country poorer than one with this attitude. A slightly nicer house etc is not worth the death of innocents.
Still at least we'll have lots of police under the Tories to deal with all the terrorists we've armed....oh, wait..
