For the record, I'm not educated, unless you count 4 GCSEs 😀. Not stupid though, arrogant or just wrong you could argue, but not stupid!

You missed out on education but you'll get a second bite of the cherry when I introduce my voting test. Make sure you revise for it though, it won't be a walk in the park.

Things could have been so different if people up and down the country who normally vote labour would have voted against him in the leadership election. Looks like another 5 years of the torys unfortunately

Just listening to PMQ's and poor old Mrs May has got the hang of the old " Strong and stable leadership " line... can she learn another one in the next 5 weeks as its boring already.

My gf's mother is a French national who's lived in the UK for 40+ years. She asked me what to do. I said she should do nothing, it'll be ok, it's just a negotiating tactic. She continued fretting, so I pointed her to a Partner specialising in immigration law that I use for my work immigration stuff. His advice, paraphrased, was "it'll probably be ok, but under this Government you currently have no guarantee. If you wait for confirmation that you need to do nothing and then find that you do need to do something after all, you'll be at the back of a very long queue. While I think that everything will be fine, my advice is that you apply now, as insurance. You can always withdraw the application later if your status is confirmed." In the cold light of day, I found it impossible to argue with that advice. I've filled in the forms for her and she's sending them off...
Home office says one thing, your lawyer friend says different. I can't claim to know more than either of those parties - I was merely pointing out what was the Home Office guidance, which was much more friendly to foreign nationals than the Telegraphs scarier headline,
Whether the Home Office is right, or your lawyer friend (bearing in mind that lawyers are traditionally cautious) turns out to be right, only time will tell...............good luck to your gf's mum anyway.

Oh I know - no criticism was intended. And you're right to say that lawyers are traditionally cautious. The consequences of not being allowed to stay were simply far too high for her to contemplate, even if the risk of such consequences being realised are negligible, that she decided to follow the cautious advice she was given. I can understand why she did, that's all I'm saying - negligible isn't zero; s'all.

Unless, of course, you think that London enjoys the same legal right to request an independence referendum that Scotland does?

Not at all. Just using a comparison to point out the flaw in your argument. As far as UK elections/referendums are concerned, the four individual countries do not have special status; they are the UK, and the results affect the whole of the UK, without an option for minorities - be they countries, cities, or dissenting groups of individuals - to pick and choose which bits to go along with.

Yeah they count, don't put yourself down. That's my job.

Actually I think you are arrogant (if not stupid) if you think tory voters don't care about other people.

Some barely veiled bitterness there.

Which "old" politician will the laughing stock come Friday 9th June? Corbyn I would suggest.

Just shows how unrepresentative NSC is.

Comrades on here tell us that Abbott & Corybn, will surprise us all with a strong Labour vote. Don't trust the polls and all that.

By the sound of today's PMQ's It seems we are electing a dictator, lot's of " a vote for me will mean.....etc etc ".....as for the retiring Tory MP'S some of their grovelling attempts to cement a place in the Lords are gut-wrenchingly sycophantic .

If that plays out then a loss of 130 seats will mean the end of Labour for a very long time !

An argument that could hold water just as long as all those MPs don't stand. Given the indication that all sitting Tories will be allowed to stand again if they wish it looks like the argument is a false one.

Not if May expects to increase the Tory majority to over 30.
