All good points, El P. The Premier League/Grassroots plan was actually in Labour's 2015 manifesto as well - so it's not a new thing.

I don't like it because I don't see how the government can force any organisation to give money to another rather undefined thing. It would be a legal mess and depend on how "grassroots" was defined in terms of balance sheet reporting.

As a concept, though - that the riches of the Premier League should enrich those below them as well - I can't see who would object. But it's an emotional rather than a practical appeal.

So basically little support.

Throwing in the use of capital letters to try and suggest he has no support from the PLP. However once you get past the bulk of the PLP the rest of the PLP do support him, So overall little support, but for some reason you can't come out and actually agree with that statement despite saying the same in a different way.
No support from the bulk of the PLP. Fact - that's what I said, so lord knows what you're wittering on about when you're saying exactly the same. Weird post.

It realy is simple but obviously beyond you.

Take this example

100 people

You say bulk don't support so let's say 70 don't

100 - 70 = 30

Therefore 30 people support

If you go back to the post and look at that whete it was stated little support

Lets say 30 support

100 - 30 = 70

Well blow me down with a feather that leaves 70 that don't support which amazely the exact same when looking at your 'fact'

Therefore logically and factly you have stated the same as the orginial post.

You may want to read this a few times to give yourself some time for the lights to go on.

...

They wanted to know my views on Jeremy Corbyn's plans to force the Premier League to give 5% of its income to grassroots football.

all excellent points, particularly revenue vs profit (could you go round the media outlets and educate them on this?) and the consequences of taxation.

as for the politics, i thought it highlights the socialist attitude towards money: there's someone with a large pot of cash, we'll have some of that.

I've not contributed to this thread as I have no interest in party politics.

However, last night I was watching a gig by The Mission (It was Wayne Hussey's 59th birthday) and somewhat bizarrely, as the gig finished (with Wasteland) I was phoned by Radio 4 at 11pm.

They wanted to know my views on Jeremy Corbyn's plans to force the Premier League to give 5% of its income to grassroots football.

I'm no fan of the Premier League as many of you will know but I said:

1) It's populist nonsense

2) The Premier League loses money each year, so where will the money come from? There's a world of difference between income and profit.

3) If you cut players wages to pay for it the government will lose the 45p in the pound they presently take in income tax. So they will lose with one hand what they give with the other.

4) The Premier League already give over £100m a year to grassroots projects.

5) It's not fair on small clubs such as Crystal Palace.

But what about the plan to refund train tickets when a game is rescheduled at short notice. I don't see anything about refunds on hotel bookings though.

The manifesto item is pretty clear on this though, 5% of Premier League TV revenues.

Labour always win here. May is proving to be pathetic and rather socialist so I'm voting UKIP (although Nuttall etc. are uninspiring) as they're the only ones to be trusted not to waver on BREXIT and I agree with most of their policies. They're obviously not going to come close to winning a seat anywhere.

See Andrew Neil interview .. Corbyn, McDonnell,Abbott all bolstering/supporting the IRA.

There is no comparison your example is comparable to someone like Harold Shipman complaining about patient care because some nurses didn't wash their hands.

Lol I wondered if you'd be in meltdown by now and sure enough :)

So all you got is the IRA lies? Just going to keep pounding away at that and hope people don't notice you are too scared to say anything about the big issues, because even you know the Labour policies are way more popular? :)

Blimey go away for a couple of weeks and everything changes on here :)

Excellent stuff from Corbyn this morning on helping away football fans being screwed over with unusable train tickets because TV games get moved. This is someone listening to the real concerns of ordinary people.

What lies are they? Corbyn is a traitor to this country. The man is more fit to be imprisoned in The Tower than reside in Downing Street. Corbyn's contribution to peace in Ireland was as constructive as The KKK's to race relations in The USA.

The big issues for me are the EU and immigration, because I feel our problems have stemmed from the numbers of people in this country. I'm afraid when it comes to the EU and immigration Labour are very sketchy on this, and it doesn't personally fill me with any confidence. I won't be voting Labour ever again, but I see the poll has swung in their favour this time around. If Labour manage to win the election that shouldn't give them permission to start trying to overturn the Brexit vote completely.

'Popular' doesn't necessarily equate to sensible or practical or affordable.

Why do you think he hasn't been arrested for treason and put on trial then? I mean, treason is a crime. There must be some explanation as to why he hasn't been nicked.

I have skimmed over the Labour manifesto, taken a note of their promises inside. Good reference for later on should they win the election.

Not worth starting a thread so I'll lump on with this existing one.

The bookies have the Tories as 4/11 favs in KT. Kirby is a hugely unpopular sitting MP with a majority of 690. Surely Labour have a chance at a gain here.

Meanwhile in Hove the Tories are 1/2 favs with Peter Kyle at 6/4. I am puzzled at that. Kyle seems very popular with the constituency and looks set to increase his majority.

Which is surely nuts. No other industry has money taken away from it at the top line. There are lots of things I loathe about the PL (which lost £300m last year due to currency movements), but to view it as a cash cow to be milked isn't right.

Appreciate others see it differently, such as Neville Southall, who seems to have changed a little since the last time I saw him play against the Albion, but I cannot put my finger on it.

The problem is that UKIP have stood aside in both of these. In KT there was 4500 UKIP votes in 2015 and in hove there was 3500. Peter Kyle won with just a 1200 majority in 2015, so add on a load of those UKIP votes and it is going to be tough. Hopefully a lot of the UKIP voters just won't turn up if there isn't a candidate.

Edit: However Greens have also stepped aside in KT and they had 3200 votes in 2015, so that helps the cause a bit. LD haven't and they had 1400. If Tories win KT by less than the amount of votes that LD get, I suspect some people will be very annoyed.
Greens and LD are both running in Hove and combined they got about 5500 votes in 2015.

Good point. I'm hoping that many Green and Lib Dem voters in Hove will back Kyle in the knowledge that a non-tactical vote could let the Tories in.
