Spent election night in and around Whitehall celebrating, bumping into some friends around Westminster and being interfered for foreign TV.

Think you may have made a typo !

Out of interest, what sort of percentage on the doorstep say 'No i'm voting for someone else' and don't want to get into a conversation as I've always expected that to be quite high and consequently, never thought that 'doorstepping' had a major impact compared to media campaigns ?

Whoops!

I would say only about 10-15% shut the door and could be considered 'against', I didn't realise how much doorstepping worked, but once you get into a conversation with people and they realise that you're just a normal person with the same interests as them it really is effective and is a necessary supplement to any media campaign.

Here
"After a shambolic month where Cameron was humiliated in a EU vote, had the chair of the party resign and seen Boris position himself for the impending election defeat his lead slips further. Not even the demotion of Gove will save him."

Just thought it was worth re-posting the original statement that kicked this thread off!!!

At least we can find this and file it under Comedy Gold, not like the 'Edstone' which seems to have vanished!

Spot on sir, though I think the snobbery in a lot of cases is far from intellectual.

Snobbery! what a joke from the people who can only offer us Eton boys as rulers

I am a selfish tory though, so it's to be expected.

Depends, if you believe in the NHS you are more dumb than selfish. First thing the Telegraph did in the wake of the victory yesterday was publish a big article calling for the privitisation of the NHS and the introduction of an American style insurance system.

That's what I posted on this thread at some point in the early hours. It's a mixed stream of...

- Which country can I move to?
- You stupid ****ers have no idea what you've done.
- I'm moving to Scotland.
- Evil, selfish, nasty *******s.
- Well played Murdoch.

Nothing from any of the glorious 37%. As before the election, they're all just quietly going about their business, propelling their party to a majority.

Best thing I read on Facebook was Stephen Grant saying that, as it was all over, he was off for a "shytory"

It would certainly change things dramatically. Even after the complete collapse of the LibDem vote, more people voted for Labour or LibDem, than voted Conservative in this election.

And more people voted for UKIP and Conservative than for Labour and LibDem.

Really can't understand why politicians are attacked for the schools they went to.

Was it them or their parents who decided where they should be educated?

By your logic, I presume you are ruling Chuka Umunna out of being Labour Leader?

I must be dumb then. Shame, really.

If you, your extended family, or anyone you care about relies on publicly funded services, then you voted against your own self interests. That's why I always hesitate to call Tories selfish until I truly know if they are part of the wealthy elite in this country

Well my two children are both disabled and rely (or have relied) heavily on public services, and my wife works for the NHS. And as if that wasn't enough, it turns out that I'm dumb.

The Tories got the most votes, and obviously those voters can't all be part of the wealthy elite, which means they're mostly dumb. The Tories have tricked us. They've ruined the education system so much that we're all too stupid to realise we're voting for the wrong party.

Let me make sure I've got this straight. Every prediction and assessment you have made has proved to be not just wrong - but spectacularly wrong - yet you call others dumb?

The reason you get it so wrong every time is because your analysis is never based on an assessment of what is actually happening, but instead what you wish would happen - based on your own narrow-minded prejudices and an inability to grasp that this isn't the 1970s anymore. You're still obsessed with a long-gone notion of the working classes and where people were educated. The country your politics are stuck in is a place of the past.

You're just a Pound Shop Ben Elton.

THIS.

Maybe the strident and vocal nature of this minority view is why the social media and opinion polls have overstated the Labour support?

Never underestimate the determination of the quiet man.

I've (without going into detail) got various family members very dependent on the NHS and one of my offspring halfway through a nursing degree. I am afraid I am also dumb, my only comfort is that I am not alone, as us dumb ones form the biggest group of voters. Thickos unite for a better Britain.

Someone care to elaborate on how much PFI costs the NHS and just who it was that set up most of the PFI's now in force and just how long those will last?
