I am with you, its others who are now in denial. There have been many post along these lines

No denial here, presenting a differing view, but not denial.

Out of interest, do you think that labour policy was the major cause of the financial crash?

They went into the crisis heavily in debt and spending more than was coming in which left them vulnerable. In the beginning they were prudent and ran a budget surplus if they had continued that policy the country would not have suffered as badly as it has.

In fifteen out of 18 years the previous tory government had run at a deficit. Labour inherited a debt that was 42% of gdp. It went down at the end of the first term to 27%. It rose back to 43% ahead of their third term and was stable at 43% despite heavy investment in education and health....and then the crash hit. Purely the bailing out the banks and the injections into the economy account for the move up to 73% as seen at the last election.

There seems to be some sharpening of knives behind the scenes in the Tory party if today's news is to be believed.

Now I know youre getting on a maybe a bit hard of thinking, but if you're going to base arguments on something that someone didn't say then you really have reached the end of the line

Wow! smart, really smart....base my arguments on something someone didn't say ? To what do you refer ? My reply was to Hampster Gull that he quoted that it wasn't a Labour government for 13 years before the coalition took over but New Labour who were Tories! letter 5455....and what has age got to do with it...are you an ageist ?:p

His comment was a sarcastic post based on his assumption of something I would say.

So if not age, what else do you attribute your inability to understand that to?

Out of interest, how much do you think the gold sales cost the UK? You do know that the sales were used to buy euro reserves? Even the most negative view is that the difference of performance between gold and euros at current value is 4bn, which is less than half the unfunded tory promises in the election campaign so far

We also still have c300 tonnes of the stuff

Really depends how you wish to evaluate the situation. Sold at the worst price if it had been 12 years later 15 billion £ more. He didn't buy just Euros, in fact only 40% of the low amount raised by the buffoon went on them.

How you can even contemplate protecting the idiot on this surpasses most of the other rubbish you've posted.

Better off without the gold.

Could the fear of a Tory minority Govt swing back 10/20 seats to Labour in Scotland on the day itself? Definite possibility and expect Labour to be pushing this strongly this week.

Better off without the gold.

Is that why Germany has the second largest amount in the world? Well maybe, they hope they have.

Please explain why "we" are better off without it.

Gold, as a physical entity is a better reserve than currency or stocks.

So the Tories announcing as a major economic policy that they would fully back Labours future spending plans 3 months before the crash means nothing then?

Of course they don't say how much was lost by the cheap privatisation of the mail which benefited their mates

The Government acted on bad advice , in effect they were screwed over by their mates in the City who ended up with a larger profit than originally projected. The rapid rise in the share price tells you it was undersold by at least £1Bn. What they wont also say is that hidden assets were kept out of the valuation , in London for instance three RM sites had an asset value of £830M which were left out of the valuation figures.

Well you're not a Tory then. Maybe more a lib dem and potentially a socialist :ffsparr:

I would never tag myself as a party man, at least i havent since i was a teenager. No one party represents my views. Some are close on certain issues. I know who i distrust more.
