I'm going in to school to see how the kids did and I'll probably stick around for a bollocking from the head before heading off to enjoy the remaining 2 weeks of my holidays

Heard the OfQual lady, or whatever tinpot organisation runs the exams on R4 this morning and she admitted that they started being tougher in exam marking this year as too many students were being given higher marks on the benefit of the doubt. So to all the people saying it wasn't easier to get an A* you were wrong and to all those who got good grades today Congrats! You have hard it harder than any year for 10 years. Boom!

As an employer I would say that this 'exams are to easy these days etc' is totally made up by the media to have something negative to say as is their wont. The results on a CV are taken for what they are, a decent number of GSCEs with half decent grades impresses. No one achieves this without a modicum of intelligence and hard work.

So if you get your results today and have achieved your best let no one take that away from you. Congratulations!

Indeed, it's not like the CV says "GCSE Maths A* (but I took in 2012 so it was really easy)", employers are always going to be impressed by lots of good grades. The thing you do need to do these days is make sure you have lots of other (not necessarily academic) achievements on your CV to put you a little bit ahead of everyone else.

You'd be a bit crap in an exam eh! Read the words carefuly, then answer the question. The lady in charge of marking standrads has said the last few years were marked too leniantly, this year's have been marked more stringently. Then I go on to congratulate people for getting good results in the first year they are clamping down on the marking.

My boy's getting his today, unfortunately, the only one he was struggling on was English, fingers crossed he has passed that and got the expected results in the others.
