It happend to me. I paid out about £400 solicitors fees and other trash and then the women took a bigger offer.

I telephoned her and asked her what the hell she was doing and that I had just spent £400 on solicitors fees and other crap.

Her words to me "Thats Business"
I told her to f&*k off on the phone. At the time I could have gone around and put a brick through the window.

I got gazumped today trying to buy a property in Dundee. In Scotland its set up so that once an offer is accepted its legally binding. However I'll only be able to recover the cost of the valuation survey through the courts - not my wasted time and effort. You have my sympathy supaseagull.

I wish I could afford to even look for a new house.

Still, you have my sympathies also. There's nothing worse than being Gazumped, especially if you've paid out for fees.

the French System is the best I think (Even though it's in France).

That really sucks supaseagull, it happened to us when we moved the time before last.

We ended up finding a better house and better value, while it was the biggest pain in the arse to start over and spend all the ££££ again it did work out for the best for us. I hope the same for your family.

Way out west
I moved last summer, had a couple of offers on the last house that I accepted but that then fell through. I then found a third buyer and accepted an offer very close to my asking price, subsequently the second person came back with an improved offer, which I refused. The amount wasn't much more than the offer I had accepted, but I turned them down, mainly because they had pulled out once already and I didn't want to risk losing a good buyer.

Different system here - the buyer puts down a deposit and if the seller then accepts a higher offer he has to pay the buyer DOUBLE the deposit

Thats a brilliant idea. Would stop all this gazumping shite.

Try gazumping back again with an even higher offer, then when it's time to pay up, tell them to stick it.

That is a great idea. f*** em around. That's business!
