Gay footballers...

Will never ever feel comfortable about coming out in the way people in other walks of life have usually been able to...

When fans of Brighton -- of all clubs -- seem (beneath their pretend progressiveness) to be just as sniggeringly homophobic as supporters of every other football club.

Gay fans... Anyone?

Thought not.

Slightly off topic but one of the local cricket teams in my area is called (since 1912) Wallington Cottagers, and they are seriously considering changing their name!

Look at the way that Liverpool One was routinely owned when he tried to post some homophobic crap. Us Brighton fans are pretty grown up about it and respond very good humouredly. The only times I've got really arsey is when I take my kiddies to footie and they have to get subjected to it.

Gay mate of mine regularly goes to Withers with a few mates. So that's another few gay fans.

The fact that the mere mention of PSV has prompted a round of suggestions like "Pork Sword Vagabonds" is an indication that people- principally men, it has to be said- still cannot cope with the notion of two consenting adults falling in love with each other (or choosing to sleep together). Which, at the end of the day, is all it is, surely, no different to anybody else?

Why does the whole subject still provoke sniggering schoolboy responses from so many guys on here?? Considering you must all be aware there are several openly gay posters, and therefore by logical progression, several more that you don't know about, do you not think that posting stuff like "Gary Faggot" might be quite offensive?

Just curious, like.

Edna, more than half of my friends here (male and female) are gay, and most of them really do support PSV - because they, like me, happen to live in Eindhoven. I also don't know of any of them who would be offended by anything on this thread. I often sit around the dinner table as one of the few straight men in a large group, and the innuendo and sniggering always flies thick and fast (and it's usually a lot cruder than anything I can come up with).

Despite what some people on here seem to want to believe, childish humour is not the exclusive preserve of straights. I've never met a gay man who didn't enjoy a good knob gag.

It's being called a "f***ing homo" (said with bile and hatred) to their faces that upsets most of my gay friends -- and is sadly something which, even in so-called "tolerant" Holland, is happening increasingly often.
