Gas and electricity. How much do you pay?

£118 per month with EOn. 4 bed detached. Was lower but they increased the monthly payment. Have just switched to a lower (EOn) tariff and mild winter has reduced consumption considerably so looking forward to a reduction/rebate. I read meters monthly to ensure smoothing of power assumptions. I've invested in more loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and spend my time walking around behind the wife turning off all the appliances and lights she leaves turned on. Occasional weekly visit from grown up daughter has massive impact, you might notice the dimming of lights and poor water pressure in Bexhill on Wednesday evenings.

where do you live? I've been freezing my tits off since November. Heating permanently on!

4 bed semi - £123 p/m with E-On dual fuel online (also get 1 Tesco point for every £1 spent). Built up a nice £300 credit following my October bill, but the January bill has just wiped that down to under £50 - still in credit though.

We also have a multi-fuel stove in the lounge which if topped up can heat the whole downstairs comfortably without the need for c/h until the evenings when we want the upstairs heated.

Why would you think paying too much to your provider is a good thing ?

Building up a reasonable credit before going into the winter quarter (the most expensive) is good as far as I'm concerned, because they don't come raising my DD by another £50 p/m in Feb/Mar/Apr to make up the deficit for additional use during the coldest months. Actually this is the first time it has worked out like this (how it is supposed to), in previous years they have increased/reduced the monthly payment like a yo/yo. Very happy with the current arrangement, thank you for your concern....

3 bed mid terrace with British gas. Me and the mrs, 13 year old daughter and a student.

We heat with gas and have a hob and we pay £77 per month

Everything else is leccy and we pay £150 a month.

Now apart from my tropical fish tank...which believe it or not doesn't use a great deal, dishwasher and washing machine, we're pretty like any normal family.

So why do i pay so bloody much ? Im convinced my meter is out. They put a new one on about 5 years ago and people laugh when i tell them how much i pay.

What's the score with getting your meter checked ?

3 bed end of terrace.

£25 electricity a month (I am tight with the lighting and I switch everything at night and when not home)
£55 Gas a month, boiler and oven only. Am currently about £70 in credit with Gas, but may have lost that this month as heating was on a lot more.

BG is the supplier.

If you want to reduce your fuel bills sign on with Which before the 31st March who are going to approach all the main companies to obtain their lowest quote, they will then advise you details of the tariff.
A similar scheme in Holland gave an average of £250 saving

Have a look on either the "Which" website or "38 degrees" website, both are running the Big Switch campaign where they are looking to get as many people as possible to sign up and then they are going to invite the Gas and Electricity companies to take part in a reverse auction to bid for everyones custom. So far over 100,000 people have registered. Sorry I haven't explained it very well but take a look, you maybe able to save yourselves some dosh.

30 electric and 40 gas a month (low as tight on the old heating)
On old fixed price deal with EDF
There is no cheap deals on the market now, all the best deals went before the large price hikes back in October last year

It is wasnt meant to be a personal 'slant' on you, but it is a scam by them and you and others embrace it.

They stock pile £millions of our money for a service/product they are yet to deliver.

You might see it as a worthwhile discipline, but ultimately I am sure you are capable of paying for this when they have delivered their energy.

Hey, I have also signed up to a current competitive tariff that insists I pay a monthly direct amount based on my annual usage, but I aint that stupid not to see their greed.

It is not a favour by them.

3 bed house £82 per month for gas & electric with Eon. I was in credit with my January bill so expecting that go down on my next quarter as gas prices have gone down by 5%. Eon are very good at adjusting direct debits.
