At half time, Ian Hart interviewed Gary Stevens (or maybe it was Gary Chivers). Gary mentioned having got his coaching badge and looking to get back into football. He seemed unfamiliar with our players ("The brighton keeper saved the penalty" "The kid had a good chance one on one"), so it's not like he's a regular.

I don't know if it was asked and I missed it, but why would he be there? Potential new coach? Potential new manager? Or was he just visiting...

Anyone know?

He works in Eastbourne on occasions, at the same place as my son.

I have seen him on a few occasions at Withers.

Oh, ok. He seemed very unfamiliar with our team, which made me think he wasn't a regular.

Why are people opposed to him coming in as a coach or manager? Has he screwed up elsewhere, or are they assuming his playing ability dictates how good he'd be as a coach/manager?

He hasn't managed before. He was a very intelligent player and if ever we were to look for a new manager that was a rookie I reckon we could do a lot lot worse than Gary Stevens.

Stroking my ego and bumping this thread giving how several people are mentioning him as a potential (though not one of the favourites) MA replacement.

This really worries me - he has no pedigree as a manager. He shares his opinions on football with the great unwashed through a mediocre column in the mighty publication that is the Kent and Sussex Courier. Always refers to Tottenham, never Brighton.

Someone has just said on the phone in that he is Brighton through and through. Rubbish.

We cannot be used as a 'practice' club for someone to indulge their belated ambitions for management.

He did manage Petersfield Town in the Wessex League in June 1993 but left after six months because of his other commitments as a pundit, presenter and sports promotion work.
