Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

But that's comparing actual transfer fees that have been PAID against each other. Not potential future valuations (which can go up as well as down) verses actual money paid for players, which is what JP did

But that's not the same, that's the cost of Arsenal's bench, not the value of it. It makes sense to compare the cost of our team with the cost of Grimsby's, but it doesn't make sense to compare an estimated value of our team.

Last time Albion played a semi-final at Wembley, Lineker said to Shearer something along the lines of: "Wouldn't want to play up front for them, Alan..."

(Which wasn't unreasonable, given how uncompetitive we were.)

He was right to. It was a very difficult job. Now I reckon most strikers would love the team we have. If you could pick up our team and dump the whole thing at a big club paying massive wages then they would be all over it.

I know it was, but Chris did the right thing. For the last 20 minutes it looked like an equaliser was a possibility. Pep's team should have done better, but I don't think it was fair to blame us.

He had a bad cold yesterday, with his voice croaking. Today he tweeted his voice had given out, so his colleague, Alex Scott, stepped in, unlike the week before, when she stood back from presenting Football Focus, in support of him.
