Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

BBC Sport are clearly working on a skeleton staff today. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/64405193/page/5

The live text updates don't have an Upvote / Downvote option.

No public contributions from tweets/texts have been shown.

No-one's being named for providing the live texts. (Probably a good thing to protect individuals from online abuse.)
They seem not to have had anyone at Bournemouth either if they think this was the attendance

The sheer hypocrisy, ineptness and cowardice at the top of the BBC is staggering.

Current Director General Davey = former Tory candidate
Andrew Neil = current 'News Presenter' airing his views in other publications
Current Chairman Richard Sharp = Organised a loan for Boris Johnsen
Robbie Gibb = on the BBC board and is a former advisor working in Teresa May's office
Alan Sugar = front of a popular BBC programme while being being anti-Corbyn, racist and so forth
Karen Brady = works on the same TV show and sits in the House of Lords in the conservative party.

We could go on. Irrespective of views on what Linker said, If he has to 'step back' then so do most of the above.

What the hell have the Tories done to our country. Why do current and ex-footballers need to be the ones showing empathy.

I can assure you that Barney Ronay won’t have known your thoughts and opinions when he wrote that. Therefore, you are agreeing with him and not the other way round.

In other words you’ve read it uncritically, copied and pasted it, thought “that’ll do” and gone to bed.

As for the bit about not being Uni, you do realise there are copyright laws in this country? Break them again and you’ll have some time off. I’ve lost count of the times Bozza has asked people not to post images that are copyright protected and to acknowledge source when quoting an article
Re: para 3, apologies to Bozza if so. As for the first 2 bits, not for the first time your strange interpretation says everything about you, as per countless other posters you love to pick fights with.

You’ve just shown how much you have been influenced by the rhetoric that Gary Lineker has compared to early 1930s in Germany.
Nothing you have posted is truthful. Not one word.
Not so. "I really can't see why" is a statement of fact - he can't see why and that is a true statement (unless he's lying, which in context seems highly unlikely).

The Government's new policy on tackling illegal immigration is long overdue and it doesn't seem to me to be that unreasonable. It certainly doesn't justify Lineker's idiotic reference to Nazi Germany. I'm not anti immigration but I really can't see why we should be obliged to take economic migrants who are already safe in France and have no real need to enter the UK.
When you imply that economic migrants’ aim is to be safe, you tell the world exactly what sort of person you are.

What a confused and mixed up post.

We are obliged as per the geneva convention which we are signed up to. Also we are directly responsible for the displacement of many of those people. The governments bill contradicts the international laws which are enshrined into UK law. France does not have obligation towards UK bound refugees as they already take their fair share, France cannot force them to apply for asylum if they don't want to stay there. However, I respect the fact you have an opinion and should be allowed to express it, and that's the real issue here. We should all be on the same side on that. Considering the overwhelming support and solidarity shown I think those that side with the government and the Beeb are in the minority

I'm a bit nonplussed by this, as the reaction on all sides seems a bit over the top to what doesn't seem a remarkably controversial tweet.
clearly the tweet is very controversial, though you're right the scale of the reaction does seem a tad excessive. its become a larger discussion than the policy he was criticising.
its over two days after this comment, still top story:

Looks very much at the moment that BBC is going to have to step back from presenting sport. Not many presenters going to be advised by their agents to risk a lucrative payday by breaking ranks and being cancelled via twitter mob rule. BURN THEM WITH FIRE!!!

I thought Lineker made the decision? How will the BBC have to back down?
Can't say I've followed every aspect of this, but surely the reason all the other commentators have stopped work is because GL has been told to take some time off. Otherwise there is no point in them taking supporting action, as there would be nothing to protest against.

Wow. Is this the reason why you think other presenters are backing GL?

You've misread the room on this occasion.

Edit - I see you have deleted some of your post, but after I replied, so it is visible here. Hmmm...

Really don't think so H. There will be a significant number of presenters with a fledging media career being advised by their handlers to get on the right side of the room now that the snowball is rolling. A bit naive to think otherwise shirley?

No. He. Didn't.

Jeez!
He used the word language. He made a direct Comparison to 1930s Germany which was the ground laying for the later genocide of 6m victims.

Say he didn't all you like...... if he really didn't as you suggest, why is the Jewish Council condemning his comments and upset by the attempted equivalence?
