Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

It’s possible. But I don’t support the government and I didn’t miss having pundits, and I watch MOTD every week. I’m not saying it to “edgy”. It’s my opinion on my enjoyment of the show. Not everything is some political mind game in life.

Maybe some did enjoy it, if they did, fine. It's just appears that the most vocal "enjoyers" appear to have a) no idea what football is or b) how to talk about it in a credible manner without sounding like they're trying to create a soundbite

Ha ha. The Mail really does represent the very worst of us. Imagine having that mindset. Makes me shiver to think they walk amongst us.

It's odd who reads the Mail - in our village it seems to be elderly women, many of whom are apparently lovely people. I think they possibly have a genuine fear of "brown people"...I say that, because we have around 50 Ukranians now living in the village. Genuine refugees, fleeing war. But they have been welcomed. The problem appears to be with people who aren't white, Christian, Europeans. The Mail, and others of its ilk, feed this fear - and indeed magnify it. And politicians use the fear to create division and manufacture their own "culture wars". This country would be a much happier place if newspapers like the Mail tried to foster positive relationships. And the elderly women in our village would feel a lot happier, too.

Can always alternate between MOTD with the soundoff and then migrate to Pornhub when the punditry starts. Have to be careful though, don't want to be at the vinegar strokes whilst looking at Danny Murphy*

Well Sky offered a not dissimilar choice during Covid lockdown, watch the game with added crowd noise, or in silence.

Whether the Beeb are able to cater for with/without pundit intervention, l have no idea.
