It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.

I didn't (nor anybody else as far as I'm aware) say the Tories are Nazis, so telling me they're not isn't necessary. You think Braverman shouldn't be home secretary, Gary's been a tool and that's "the sum of it". I think there's much more to it than that. The government are trying (successfully at the moment, although it will ultimately backfire on them) to control the BBC. There are already many free ways to watch the match highlights without studio punditry prior to MOTD airing each evening.

MOTD’s only real USP is the pundits it chooses to present its flagship show.

The BBC is bias, they removed a documentary by national treasure and all round good guy, David Attenborough, because they were worried about Right Wing backlash and had pressure from right wing MPs. Let’s not forget the Tories appoint the head of the BBC who is a former head of communications for the Tory party. It’s completely hypocritical to criticise Lineker alone.

Except the BBC have expressly denied this and put out a statement to this effect. They are also broadcasting it. But the conspiracists are entrenched in their view it’s further evidence of government censorship and there’s no hope of them changing their stance. So 2023…

That is just not how anything works. A journo writing a column agreeing or disagreeing with you doesn't make you right or wrong.

Your problem about Gary Lineker is that he doesn't agree with you and the Tories about immigration. If he had expressed positive opinions about this government decision, you wouldn't have any problems with him expressing opinions in public. Since he's not agreeing with you, you are turning every stone to find arguments why a person living in a supposed democracy is not allowed to express his personal opinions without getting suspended from his job.

I think there's a plenty on NSC would argue that anything in the Guardian is 'wrong' but few would point it out for fear of a torrent of abuse. Anyway, good news is that Alex Scott won't be stepping in to replace Lineker.

For me what stands out in this is the apparent lack of consistency - Lineker punished but Sugar, Neil, Parris etc able to say what they want on social media and in print. Plus of course the strong relationship between both BBC Chair and DG with the Conservative Party. Right wing comment = fine, anything critical of the govt = not fine.

I can assure you that Barney Ronay won’t have known your thoughts and opinions when he wrote that. Therefore, you are agreeing with him and not the other way round.

Correct me if I am wrong but if he apologies for his use of language he wins with everyone doesn't he? I wonder why he thought it correct to bring those torrid times into it, it had to be rash thinking on a social media account.
