We need both (and a midfielder) -

one centre back, one midfielder and two strikers

So that's hopefully Blackwell, Rodger (hoping they'll be something like the same players after injury) and two new strikers - have to agree with you there

I don't like the idea of relying on the fitness of two elderly players who spent most of last season out through injury. I'm not saying they won't cope. It's the relying on them that's the problem.

We need more than one midfielder - we must have a defensive midfielder (which could be Rodger, but it would be nice if they had a bit of height as well) and a creative player/winger in the Brooker/Hunt mould

He's having problems according to the bbc website via the Daily Record

Scotland star Gary Caldwell could have his move to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem scuppered by Fifa red tape. (Daily Record).

People who are moaning that we don`t need defenders but midfielders and strikers... i watched my Estonia - Scotland game once again (the one of 27th of May 2004) and Gary Caldwell played in central midfield then (defensive midfielder). He had a solid game, one lovely throughball to Kenny Miller. Caldwell hit the bar with a header as well and got booked.

Nice lad, i think he`d do the job for Brighton. His brother Stephen (i think he is at least) sat on the bench that night and now some Sunderland fans are very happy to have him in their squad.

So sign him up (if possible :))

Would be a good signing... worried about Butters lack of pace, and the inexperience of our other central defenders... Danny excepted, of course...
