From Sportinglife.com:

'David O'Leary has admitted his surprise at Sven-Goran Eriksson's decision to deny any sort of opportunity to Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry after his fine form this season.

Barry has been a model of consistency on the left side of midfield and even filled in effectively at left-back in the absence of Wilfred Bouma and Jlloyd Samuel.

He has clocked up over 300 first-team appearances and recaptured the form he demonstrated during Graham Taylor's reign after returning to Villa for a second spell in charge.

But Eriksson has continued to overlook former Brighton trainee Barry since the early part of his reign as England coach'

Are we still entitled to any payment for future England appearances by Barry or is that dead in the water after all the shenanigans with that prize prick and ex-Albion player John Gregory?

I think Ellis & Knight did a deal so that we got more cash upfront in return for cancelling his appearances and international linked payments. At the time we need the cash rather than take the gamble on his potential long term value.

with cole mincing on the sidelines with mobiles he could well get a call up
No chance. Cole and Bridge will be fit for the World Cup, and Sven has never picked Barry before.

I think he's be a useful player for us to have but realistically he's got no hope of going to Germany.

Good point. With Cole and Bridge both being injured this season, and Barry having international experience and form, you'd have hoped he would have been picked for a few squads.

There is certainly more merit in his inclusion than other players who have got in, like Hargeaves, Luke Young, Phil Neville, Kieran Richardson.

Would like to see him at the WC a good covering squad player, can play LB, CB, CM, LM cover for 4 positions

THINKS... Gareth Barry can cover 4 positions, but when McGhee asks any of his players to do that, they're playing 'out of position', and 'McGhee has lost the plot'.

Funny old world, innit?

Gareth Barry is having an excellent season, can't see why he wouldn't be considered by Sven, oh hang on a minute he doesn't play for a team in the top 5 or 6 in the table, he must be crap in that case.

One of my customers who is a keen Villa fan reckons they have paid us some money recently - is it still for Barry? or is he talking bollocks?

There is a difference when you do it with one player and not 3 or 4 in the side.
