Mad really. We do some work with them in my day job. Shame as some decent people at their head office, with a lot of the team having been there for a number of years. My direct contact has been there for over 10 years, and a very sizeable pension he is waiting to hear about and ensure that is 'ring fenced.'

They're not honouring gift cards or loyalty card points.

We had this on here a couple of years back when some video type shop went bust just after Christmas and made the schoolboy error of staying open for a couple of days while at the same time refusing to honour gift vouchers. Can't remember what it was called (Videobox maybe?) but it was just behind the Quadrant pub by the Clock Tower. Pretty sure it was established that if you had a gift voucher, you just took your goods to the till, gave them the gift voucher and walked out the door and the police wouldn't do anything to stop you. Maybe best to take a scan/photo of your gift voucher first though by way of proof that you had one in the first place.

Think I have some credit on my Game card stored up. Might be worth me using them soon!

Sent from London, a small village on Mars, just outside the capital city,Wibble.

I think I'd probably do just that if I had a gift card. Sadly however I don't know that it would be quite so black and white with a loyalty card balance. You'd need them to scan the card to work out what balance was available. In fact, that's how gift cards work these days, they are just plastic cards pre-loaded with credit. There's nothing on the card to say the value, as with old paper vouchers, so you'd have to get the store staff to run it through the till before they knew its value. And they're not going to do that. So walking out and just leaving it on the counter presents a problem because if they do get the police involved how can you prove that the card in question entitles you to the value of the goods you've walked out with?

We have 5 Game/Gamestation shops in Leeds, 3 of them 5 minutes walk from each other, hardly surprising to see something like this happen.

Gamestation used to be the best of the rest with their retro sections and staff that didn't pounce as soon as you walked in, that soon changed once Game bought them out.

Was in a Game yesterday and there were a few bargains to be had, and cashed in the reward points for an iTunes voucher last week as it was obvious this was happening.

Now it leaves CEX as probably the only nationwide high street video game store and I wont set foot in there as I don't want to listen to head banger music played at 150dB when looking for stuff to buy

Exactly, unless, some cards are actually issue'd under the persons name when they were set up through the till, so it might have a name set up on it.

Most people that send gift cards usually include a printed receipt so the person knows how much they have to spend shirley? As for loyalty points, if you have some kind of online tally that you can print out showing how many points you have, and a copy of the Terms & Conditions showing the approximate exchange value, it may well be worth a go.

I like your thinking, but the Game website was taken down this morning.

Whoops, sorry, didn't know that.

No need to apologise! I like your consumer fighting the rules attitude.

It does sound as if the retail sector has prepared itself for situations such as this with the pre-loaded gift cards not showing a value thing. And as for the website, why keep it up if they can't even fulfil orders placed? It was only going to be trouble for them with worried gamers trying to work out how to get value from their loyalty points.

It's enough to put you off loyalty schemes really. I've spent an AWFUL lot of money in that chain over the years and back in the days when there was a choice on the high street, the loyalty card scheme did persuade me to buy from Game rather than Virgin/Zavvi, Woolworths or HMV because the points did quickly add up. Now they're worthless and all my loyalty has NOT been rewarded. In fact I've probably spent a good deal more than I needed to by opting to purchase from Game specifically so as to get the loyalty points when I could have shopped around for a better price.

Bollocks to loyalty then. It's every man for himself

Game would have been fine if they had kept 1 store in each town, should have sold the gamestation shops rather than keep them open

Disagree - they should have made themselves an online only operation in the same way Dixons managed to. Currys and PC World I would give only a couple of more years for the very same reason ( and yes I know, they are part of the same group as Dixons ! ).

Well you can't. They won't accept it. It's valueless now. Sadly

Oh  shame that its seemingly going to the wall, have always used it for games in the past, however haven't bought a new one from there for around a year and bit!

Too many stores in too close proximity, pricing that mad no sense when you compared it to online prices, focusing on only the mainstream titles and sidelining the more interesting quirkier games that you would hope a games shop would offer to set it apart from supermarkets et al

You could see this coming a mile off, especially when the EA stuff happened then a couple of weeks ago they had a 'spring clean sale' ie Slashing prices on second hand games to shift the excess stock and try and make a few quid.

I made sure I emptied any loyalty points and reward cards I had before it was too late
