Points > Andy Naylor essays telling us how wonderful the manager is even when we've failed to beat a relegation rival.

Hopefully we've got over the nonsense now and Mid Table beckons.

I think we were just pretty tired towards the end to be honest, and the lack of focal point up front in the 2nd half meant we were content to try and keep the ball/play low risk football when we could.

Isn't that what people usually mean by 'game management' - seeing out a game by whatever means possible with the resources available.

'Just pretty tired' - so OK, manage the f***in' game!

If I were a Watford fan I would be very worried about the defence, shocking and gave the ball away far too often

If they go a goal or two down, they’re pretty obviously f****d; I don’t think there is much more to their game. But, if they can nick a goal at the beginning of a match like they did to Villa, they’ll be somewhat problematic.

Thank God I don’t read The Athletic and his musings.

….and got Solly a yellow :)

Very strange, we end up with 4 bookings but we were not as physical as them, the tackle on Maupay which injured him was a bad foul and the player who did it was leading with his elbow though it was falling on him that caused the issue. There was also a point where Connolly was thrown to the ground , not fell over as is normal. There was also a very heavy tackle by the guy who had his goal disallowed.

The positive point is we look like we won't be pushed around and certainly Webster & Duffy took yellows for the team whereas before certainly Webster might have been less likely to.

Game management is one of those expressions that means nothing. If you defend your lead, "game management" was right because of whatever reason you can invent (kept the ball or sunk back and defended well or whateverI. If you fail to defend a lead, "game management" was poor because of whatever reason you can invent (should have kept the ball instead of clearing it or should have cleared the ball instead of keeping it). It means nothing.

Tactical masterclass from Potter. He did his homework on how Watford countered so effectively against Villa and completely nullified it. Xisco had no answers.

Brilliant tactical performance backed up by superb energy and skill on the pitch.

Game management. No chance. We pissed it. Not seen an easier win in the last 18 months. Ok maybe Newcastle, but we barely even needed to try today. Watford only looked a threat with 20 to go and we barely flinched.

Wasn’t there but a real joy to watch on TV.

We’ve been guilty of not taking our chances and then we get two in 40 mins with two shots. “Just do what you do in training!” Aaron could’ve got one more and Alexis another.

Took it out of sight in first half and brought on some real quality.

This is my thinking as well. To be fair, Watford pushed and tried different formations and personal but we dealt with all this adequately. Very professional performance.

Agree with this. Watford tried to press in the second half. We spotted that, played a little deeper and played around them.

Should have been 3-0, but I never thought Watford would score.

Last season the chances are that against these two opening teams that we have played we'd have drawn or lost one of the games. Much better signs. Still, long ways to go.
