Whilst I was waiting for McClaren to be sacked this morning, I thought we could all do with some cheering up!

With quite a few posters on here being interested in gambling, I thought the possibility of a Greyhound syndicate being quite a good idea. If we could get 15 or 20 of us together, we could purchase a greyhound, and get it in training and kennelled (for a few months at least, and the prize-money could keep us going as well.) Being that the local track is Hove, it would probably be an idea to get a racer here, as then we could organise some social evenings out to see it race!

I reckon that a contribution of £100 per person would be a good starting point.

Anyone interested?

If you are, PM me, or drop a line to this thread. :drink:

Cheers,
Seagulltonian

It's a nice idea, as long as you never expect to make any money from it.

People I've known before that have had a share in a greyhound say you're lucky if you make back the training/kennel fees. The only real benefit is mixing with people 'in the know' and picking up some tips.

Definitely not looking at it as a money-making proposistion!

I'll be honest, I'd like to own a Greyhound, but just haven't got the funds to do it myself at the moment. I could scrape together £100 quid, and with 15 or more other willing soles, a small syndicate could be started.

If you look at it £100 isn't a great deal to shell out for some good nights out at the track, with some football chat thrown-in for good measure.

A Greyhound is "supposed" to win once in every 10 races, so if you're on it when it wins, that's an extra bonus!

Okey dokey! Your name is on the list

There is a big BUT to you being in the syndicate...... And that is you must never tip it when it runs, as your record as a tipster isn't masssive :D

yeah, would possibly be interested

generally its a yearly fee isnt it? (for kennelling/training etc)

If we get 15 to 20 of us, and we chip in £100 each, we would be able to buy a dog that is running at Hove, (it might be completely rubbish of course!)

We would still have enough left to pay the kennelling fees (which are charged monthly I believe, and there are half-a-dozen Greyhound kennels in East and West Sussex, for nearly 5 months or so.

You then get a fee everytime the Greyhound runs, and that is normally once a week, and extra money for coming in the first three as well. So hopefully once you've laid out the intial £100 to start with, there shouldn't be an other costs for the first six months at least. Unless the dog gets injured, then you have vets bills. :(

I'm in a greyhound syndicate at the moment. It doesnt cost alot of money for the upkeep. Race/prize money should pay for the kennel fees. All you will be paying for is the cost to buy the dog.

You will get a good idea of how much you are likely to pay for a dog on this site

www.hovedogs.co.uk.

Also, you should consider who will house the dog when it retires from racing.

Edit: There are currently pups on there from WestMead Hawk (probably the greatest dog in recent times). They are untrained (3 months old) & are £600.

 Thought that may have been done already but cant remember it! There are 2 dogs with Albion links running at the moment. Zamora Girl & Falmer Joy are both around the A6 mark at the mo.

Cheers for the info Chez, any other input would be gratefully received!

If we can get this going, I think it may have to be named "NORTHSTAND CAT" :D

I'm sure Bozza would sue us for copyright, if we call it Northstand Chat! :albion2:

We currently have 7 interested parties, so looking currently at about £200 quid each. Anyone else want to join?

Another couple of people, and I reckon we'd be talking about £150 each.
