What REALLY pisses me off is the fact that fans are being told that they can't bring a bottle of water into the stadium, because this will "compromise public safety", yet this bunch of shysters have been given the job to protect the event.
whixh appears to

More blame should go to the government department who estimetd initially 2,000 would be required when it appears that this was just 9,000 out. Who made this call? Next is the gov dept that decided that decided to award the whole of the increase of 9,000 solely to one company who were always likely to say yes please. Who signed this off at government/civil service level? Who signed off the merger of Group4 & Securicor which seems to have created a monopoly situation?
All of the above are more to blame, as the root cause of this and any issue is where you need to look to uncover why an outcome has occurred

... and monitored properly, to ensure compliance.

That has obviously NOT happened. Yet we have had loads of self-congratulatory soundbites from all sorts of government spokespeople, from Cameron downwards, about how well the preparations have been going.

It is but is that not down to the Organising comity of the London Olympics and G4S.

I dont support Labour or Cons but when i was listening to questions in the commons on this, it sounded like a 50/50 screw up between them both.

No-one.

The full story of the growth of G4S to become the world's third largest private sector employer, with operations in more than 125 countries and an annual turnover of £7.5 billion, is rather disturbing.

On top of this I think G4S had also been lined up to take over a lot of support roles in various UK Police forces.

Presumably these Police Authorities feel G4S can deliver the same services on a more cost effective basis than exisiting arrangements and in return G4S see a financial profit in the contracts. Which prompts various questions about either the existing arrangement being inefficient or that G4S have made optimistic forecasts about their costs. It is rather worrying to see key functions within a statutory authority being signed over to an incompetent private profit making business - doesn't exactly fill you with confidence.

Let us not forget that G4S even outsource themselves - their recruitment and IT are run by that very popular firm Capita. I wonder how quickly the G4S CEO will start to pass the buck that way ?

As indeed they also outsource the Government work programme for long term unemployed for which they have the contract. After getting a rake from the Government to run this Programme, they have re-outsourced it to be run by the Lifeboats association !

G4S have their fingers in many Government pies, the UK equivalent of Haliburton. This lot are rotten to the core. They have a long history of dubious practises, especially in the running of prisons & Immigrant holding centre's. It would be interesting to know what members of the Government & close associates of Ministers have 'connections' with G4S?

They tried to do it on the cheap and got caught out, typical government project.

Is £280m 'on the cheap'? That's a hefty sum of money. Wouldn't be surprised if it transpires that some of that money has been ringfenced and trousered before G4S have got round to thinking about the secondary matter of providing the services they were paid pretty handsomely to provide.

I can see it now - Police Cars with advertising down the side & sponsored Uniforms. Maybe after somebody has 'assisted with enquiries' they may be asked by the Copper who their house insurance is with or if they wish to sign up for a lower rate credit card? The opportunities for enterprise are endless......

Was it not Labour who organised this, i love how Cameron and co get the blame when Labour gave them the project

The Tories will have been in charge of monitoring the contract for compliance over the past few years. The collapse was on their watch.

That entry is not exactly complementary - the only bright spot being that they won "Security Company of the Year", presumably as they were the only ones in it as they have bought everyone else! It does not get off to a good start when it says "it's headquarters are in Crawley"!

I find it disturbing that companies of this nature are allowed to get so big and have their fingers in so many pies. Where is the competition?

I think it all went wrong when they branched out into popular operatic/classical singing. Their version of 'Don't Stop Me Now' was atrocious.

Sorry.

The security of the Olympics should have never been outsourced to a private company in the first place. The security of the everyone involved whether taking part or spectating is paramount. The military and police should have been in charge of this from the start.
Now I realise both of these organisations have suffered severe cuts and the fact that they are now being asked to step in is quite frankly a shambles. The fact that these poor troops have just finished a tour of Afghanistan and have had their leave cancelled is disgraceful.
As I have said though safety is paramount and the people in charge should have gone with this option from the start.

I am a current serving member of HM Forces. 30 of my colueeges from my squadrom returned from a 6 month tour in Afghanistan last MONDAY. They have been in work this week doing half days sorting out kit and administration, before 6 weeks leave was due to start yesterday. They were all gathered together with 70 others (who hadnt been in Afghan but were due to be starting summer leave), and told they will be leaving for London on Sunday evening and wont be returning until after the Paralympics.
At least half of them have families and children and have holidays booked which they wont now be able to go on.

My reccomendation to any members of G4S management who might read this, stay well away from anybody in a military uniform during the Olympics, they may just loose thier self restraint!!
If they want to rub shoulders with G4S people, your colleagues won't need to be working at the Olympics. They can get that in Afghanistan.

At long last, I actually watched BBC's Twenty Twelve.
I thought it was billed a comedy, I didn't realise it was a documentary.

no. dont let G4S off the hook so easily, as everyone likes to point fingers at the government. so they got the original specification wrong, when they looked to re-spec G4S took the new contract. they are to blame for failing to deliver and failing to notify the client there was a likly problem ealier. i'm frankly astonished they havent been able to find and train 10000 people for this. there are literally hundreds of thousands of A level, undergrads and unemployed in 50 miles of the locations, all ripe for recruitment to this role. they must be incompetently managing their recruitment and training to have failed to supply the 10k heads required.
