I went to a West Ham evening game back in the 90's. Got the train back to Brighton, decided it would be a good idea to go for a drink in Brighton and then missed the last train back to Worthing. Being an impoverished student, who was slightly worse for wear, I decided to walk home. Being a little bit drunk and also not knowing Brighton that well, I decided the best way was to follow the railway track. Got back in Worthing at about 5am, having lost the track and ended up on the seafront at Shoreham somehow.

8 miles (cue for a song there !!)
Myself & Forum Way Seagull decided it would be better to walk from Dav's in T/Wells to Paddock Wood as the cost of a cab could be spent on more alcohol !! :drink:

What kind of state were you in to think to yourself, in Hove, that you'd walk to HORSHAM ??

Thats got to be getting on for 30 miles !

I think it's "only" about 20 miles to be honest. The usual lethal cocktail of excess alcohol and blown out by a lady. What else are you going to do if you miss the last train?

Not very far - central Worthing to the very top North West corner of Durrington. 4 miles? Same reason as others - not too flush as a youngster and would rather spend the money on beer than on a taxi.

Oh god, I’ve had a few drunken missions before. Dorking to Reigate, Brixton to Croydon, I attempted to Guildford to Dorking but ended up getting picked up by two very nice female students who dropped me off in Reigate, which was a touch.

My favourite drunken adventure was with a girl I know we walked from Caterham to Selhurst and spent the whole journey singing songs from Labyrinth and Bugsy Malone.

Derby - Nottingham after going to see NOFX c:1994. Stayed for the encore knowing i would miss the last train but thinking it was "only" about 7 miles walk. It must be more like double that.

I've been Stellaported further distances, though I'm unable to confirm walking as the sole means of locomotion.

Brighton to Seaford became something of a regular post-clubbing trek for me and my mates in the late 80s, getting home at sun-up because we were too skint to pay for a cab and the last train back was before midnight. The first thirteen or so miles were okay, but Newhaven to Seaford was the worst bit - the 'Newhaven' bends, as we used to call that stretch of the A259, just went on forever.

I was interested in how far it is from Brighton to Horsham. Checked the interweb and found four different answers within mintutes - ranging from 15 miles to 26.6.

The AA's answer is 23.4 and that's probably the most accurate. To do it in 8.5 hours is pretty slow walking but understandable at the time of the night.

It's a fair old trek
